Mechanical effects on KATP channel gating in rat ventricular myocytes.
Cardiac KATP channels link metabolism with electrical activity. They are implicated in arrhythmias, secretion of atrial natriuretic peptide and protection of the heart from hypertrophy and failure. These processes may involve mechanosensitivity.

This patient was admitted to the hospital 43 h after birth with convulsions and hypoglycemia, presenting as recurrent refractory hypoglycemia that was difficult to control with conventional medication. Whole exome sequencing detected the GLUD1 (NM_005271.3:c.1495G>T, p.Gly499Cys) variant, which was a de novo variant in the patient and was not detected ...

Consensus on the Clinical Use of Pregabalin in Peripheral Neuropathic Pain
Pregabalin, a second‐generation α2δ calcium‐channel ligand, exerts potent analgesic effects in peripheral neuropathic pain by reducing calcium influx, suppressing excitatory neurotransmitter release, and decreasing neuronal hyperexcitability. Based on a PRISMA‐guided review of 139 studies and multidisciplinary expert consensus, pregabalin demonstrates ...

Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms in KATP Channels [PDF]
ATP-sensitive K+ channels (KATP channels) play an important role in glucose homeostasis. A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the Kir6.2 subunit causes a point mutation of Glu23 to lysine and reduces the ATP sensitivity of pancreatic KATP channels. The SNP found in 58% of Caucasians accounts for 15% of type 2 diabetes.

Role of Cardiac KATP Channels During Anoxia and Ischemia
In isolated heart cells, maintained anoxia causes a transient opening of KATP channels. In the ischemic myocardium, this extra K+ conductance results in a decreased contractility and may be arrhythmogenic.

Pancreatic Islet Cell Crosstalk: Insight Into α‐/β‐Cell Compensatory Mechanisms
α‐cell remodeling compensates for impaired β‐cell function. Intra‐islet glucagon/GLP‐1 signaling is upregulated and becomes essential in prediabetic islets. Flexible receptor engagement reflects functional plasticity in hormonal control of insulin secretion. Created in BioRender. Plecita, L. (2026); https://BioRender.com/pgjjg3m.

Regulation of KATP channel activity
ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels are present in many tissues, most notably pancreatic islets and cardiac cells, where they couple the metabolic state of a cell to its electrical activity by regulating the flow of K+ across the membrane in response to the intracellular ATP/ADP ratio.
