C57BL/6 mice from Charles River Laboratories (CR) have enhanced mucosal immune action relative to C57BL/6 mice from Jackson Laboratories (JAX). CR mice are more susceptible to severe DSS‐induced colitis than JAX mice. Co‐housing transfers colitis susceptibility from CR mice to JAX mice.

Gestational kynurenine metabolites mediate effects of pregnancy adiposity on child negative affect
Background Mounting evidence links increased adiposity during pregnancy and offspring risk for mental health disorders. Yet the mechanisms underlying this association remain poorly understood, limiting our ability to design effective interventions.

Xanthurenic acid and its rôle in the trytophane metabolism of pyroxidine-deficient rats [PDF]
In a previous publication (1) the isolation of a green pigment from the urine of pyridoxine-deficient rats was described. The green pigment was shown to be the product of a reaction between ferric ammonium sulfate or other ferric salts and a compound ...

Glutamate and opioid antagonists modulate dopamine levels evoked by innately attractive male chemosignals in the nucleus accumbens of female rats [PDF]
Sexual chemosignals detected by vomeronasal and olfactory systems mediate intersexual attraction in rodents, and act as a natural reinforcer to them.

Background Tryptophan, an essential precursor metabolite within the kynurenine pathway, has been implicated in the neurobiological mechanisms underlying both schizophrenia and associated suicidality. Despite this link, the lack of validated biomarkers to

Abstract A mouse model of HIV‐associated atherosclerosis (Tg26+/−ApoE−/−) exhibited increased plaque area compared with the ApoE−/− mouse, linked to elevated indoleamine 2,3‐dioxygenase (IDO) activity. IDO catalyses the conversion of tryptophan (TRP) into kynurenine (KYN), measured by the KYN‐to‐TRP ratio.
