We demonstrate that Cars2, a cysteine catabolic enzyme in mouse iBAT, is critical for cold tolerance and brown adipocyte differentiation. Through its CPERS activity, Cars2 produces CysSSH/H2S to induce EBF2 persulfidation, promoting its interaction with PPARγ and BRG1 to enhance thermogenic gene expression.

Effect of obesity and serum leptin level on clopidogrel resistance
Objective: Clopidogrel inhibits platelet aggregation by blockade of platelet adenosine diphosphate (ADP) P2Y12 receptor. Leptin is the obesity gene product, and its serum level increases with obesity.

Leptin sensitizing effect of 1,3-butanediol and its potential mechanism
Leptin is an adipocyte-derived hormone that regulates appetite and energy expenditure via the hypothalamus. Since the majority of obese subjects are leptin resistant, leptin sensitizers, rather than leptin itself, are expected to be anti-obesity drugs ...

Obesity and cancer: existing and new hypotheses for a causal connection [PDF]
Existing explanations of obesity-associated cancer emphasise direct mutagenic effects of dietary components or hormonal imbalance. Some of these hypotheses are reviewed briefly, but recent evidence suggests a major role for chronic inflammation in cancer

A mathematical model of leptin resistance [PDF]
Obesity is often associated with leptin resistance, which leads to a physiological system with high leptin concentration but unable to respond to leptin signals and to regulate food intake. We propose a mathematical model of the leptin-leptin receptors system, based on the assumption that leptin is a regulator of its own receptor activity, and ...

Alzheimer's Disease Risk Factor APOE4 Exerts Dimorphic Effects on Female Bone
In aging bone, osteocytes accumulate neurodegenerative risk factor Apolipoprotein E (APOE). A humanized version of the Alzheimer's disease risk allele APOE4 altered the mouse bone transcriptome and proteome, with effects in female bone surpassing the brain, including bone fragility due to suppressed osteocytic maintenance of bone quality, identifying ...

The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between changes in body weight and composition during chemoradiotherapy, such as the psoas muscle mass index, visceral fat index, and subcutaneous fat index obtained from computed tomography images, and long‐term outcomes in rectal cancer patients.

25-Hydroxy vitamin-D, obesity, and associated variables as predictors of breast cancer risk and tamoxifen benefit in NSABP-P1. [PDF]
Observational studies suggest that host factors are associated with breast cancer risk. The influence of obesity, vitamin-D status, insulin resistance, inflammation, and elevated adipocytokines in women at high risk of breast cancer is unknown. The NSABP-

Metabolic and biochemical profiling reveals phenotypic heterogeneity in Zucker diabetic fatty rats
Genetically uniform Zucker Diabetic Fatty (ZDF) rats spontaneously develop four distinct metabolic phenotypes despite identical housing and diet conditions. Each phenotype exhibits unique biomarker signatures encompassing glucose homeostasis, insulin secretion, polyol pathway activation, oxidative stress, inflammatory cytokines, and neurotrophic ...
