The role of insulin receptor substrate 2 in hypothalamic and β cell function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Insulin receptor substrate 2 (Irs2) plays complex roles in energy homeostasis. We generated mice lacking Irs2 in β cells and a population of hypothalamic neurons (RIPCreIrs2KO), in all neurons (NesCreIrs2KO), and in proopiomelanocortin neurons ...

Genomic Insights Into Risperidone Treatment Outcomes in Children and Adolescents: Experience From a Psychiatric Hospital Serving Rural Youth

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Risperidone is a commonly used antipsychotic for treating psychiatric illness in children and adolescents. There is a large variability in risperidone response and discontinuation rates remain high. Pharmacogenomics offers the opportunity to improve risperidone outcomes, yet studies in pediatric populations are limited.

Age-associated weight gain, leptin, and SIRT1: a possible role for hypothalamic SIRT1 in the prevention of weight gain and aging through modulation of leptin sensitivity

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2015
The hypothalamus is the principal regulator of body weight and energy balance. It modulates both energy intake and energy expenditure by sensing the energy status of the body through neural inputs from the periphery as well as direct humoral inputs ...

The Serotonin 2B (5‐HT2B) Receptor: A Narrative Review of Preclinical and Clinical Evidence on the Safety Considerations and Therapeutic Potential for the Treatment of Depression

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Major depressive disorder (MDD) and treatment‐resistant depression (TRD) remain leading causes of disability, providing the impetus for receptor‐level treatment strategies beyond monoamine reuptake. The serotonin 5‐HT2B receptor (5‐HT2BR) is uniquely positioned at the interface of central‐antidepressant mechanisms and peripheral cardiac risks.

Pengaruh Leptin terhadap Kadar Interleukin 6 Serum Tikus yang Diberi Pakan Tinggi Lemak

open access: yesMutiara Medika, 2014
Pada keadaan obesitas, meningkatnya jumlah sel lemak merupakan salah satu penyebab meningkatnya sitokin proinflamasi seperti IL-6. Obesitas dapat dimulai dengan terjadinya resistensi leptin.

Systemic aging fuels heart failure: Molecular mechanisms and therapeutic avenues

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1059-1080, April 2025.
Abstract Systemic aging influences various physiological processes and contributes to structural and functional decline in cardiac tissue. These alterations include an increased incidence of left ventricular hypertrophy, a decline in left ventricular diastolic function, left atrial dilation, atrial fibrillation, myocardial fibrosis and cardiac ...

Role of Leptin in Cardiovascular Diseases

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2020
The adipocyte-derived adipokine leptin exerts pleiotropic effects, which are essential for the regulation of energy balance and cell metabolism, for controlling inflammatory and immune responses, and for the maintenance of homeostasis of the ...

Recent advances in understanding leptin signaling and leptin resistance

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2009
The brain controls energy homeostasis and body weight by integrating various metabolic signals. Leptin, an adipose-derived hormone, conveys critical information about peripheral energy storage and availability to the brain. Leptin decreases body weight by both suppressing appetite and promoting energy expenditure.

Commonalities of platelet dysfunction in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and underlying comorbidities

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1013-1028, April 2025.
Abstract Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is characterized by a lack of a specific targeted treatment and a complex, partially unexplored pathophysiology. Common comorbidities associated with HFpEF are hypertension, atrial fibrillation, obesity and diabetes.

Association between serum leptin concentrations and insulin resistance: a population-based study from China. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
BACKGROUND: Insulin resistance contributes to the cardio-metabolic risk. The effect of leptin in obese and overweight population on insulin resistance was seldom reported.
