Numerical modelling of the aluminium extrusion process [PDF]

open access: yes
The extrusion of aluminium alloys involves the shaping of the product from an homogenised billet into a complex shape. In addition the properties of the extrudate are closely related to the processing parameters (temperature, stain rate, and material ...

Rapid Fabrication of Self‐Propelled and Steerable Magnetic Microcatheters for Precision Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A rapid Joule heating fabrication method for the production of self‐propelling, adaptive microcatheters, with tunable stiffness and integrated microfluidic channels is presented. Demonstrated through three microrobotic designs, including a steerable guiding catheter, an untethered wave‐crawling TubeBot, and a distal‐end propelled microcatheter, it was ...

A DNA tension-dependent tug-of-war between dimeric SMC motors governs loop extrusion directionality [PDF]

open access: yes
Structural maintenance of chromosome (SMC) complexes organize and regulate genomes via DNA loop extrusion. During this process, the complexes increase the loop size by reeling in DNA from one or both sides of the loop. The factors governing this symmetry

Ammonium Salts as Curing Agents to Obtain Ionic Epoxy Resins With a Thermoplastic‐to‐Thermoset Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic epoxy networks are prepared using ammonium salts as hardeners, leading to a two‐stage curing process with a thermoplastic‐like intermediate. This uncommon behavior enables extrusion and fabrication of thermoplastic prepregs that can be cured into thermoset composites.

Cohesin Disrupts Polycomb-Dependent Chromosome Interactions in Embryonic Stem Cells

open access: yesCell Reports, 2020
Summary: How chromosome organization is related to genome function remains poorly understood. Cohesin, loop extrusion, and CCCTC-binding factor (CTCF) have been proposed to create topologically associating domains (TADs) to regulate gene expression. Here,

Stable Protein‐Based G‐Quadruplex‐Derived Supramolecular Bioinks as Tunable ECM‐Mimetic Constructs Assembled by Combining Non‐Covalent and Covalent Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Harnessing the synergistic interplay of supramolecular self‐assembly, under macromolecular crowding conditions, and enzymatic‐mediated covalent crosslinking toward a stable protein‐based G‐quadruplex‐derived supramolecular bioink. This bioinspired strategy enables the biofabrication of complex and tunable ECM‐mimetic constructs, providing a platform ...

Loop extrusion by cohesin plays a role in enhancer-activated gene expression early in differentiation

open access: yesNature Communications
Enhancers and their target promoters often come into close physical proximity when activated. This may be explained by a variety of mechanisms, including cohesin-mediated chromatin loop extrusion.
