The Effect of Tubulin Acetylation on Microtubule Structure and Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2013
The post-translational acetylation of tubulin is a highly conserved process, but the effect of this modification on microtubule structure and function remains unclear. We have previously reported that the organization and localization of acetylated microtubules changes as epithelial cells undergo apico-basal polarization, suggesting that these ...

The HDAC6 Inhibitor Trichostatin A Acetylates Microtubules and Protects Axons From Excitotoxin-Induced Degeneration in a Compartmented Culture Model

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2018
Axon degeneration has been implicated as a pathological process in several neurodegenerative diseases and acquired forms of neural injury. We have previously shown that stabilizing microtubules can protect axons against excitotoxin-induced fragmentation,

Tubulin acetylation alone does not affect kinesin-1 velocity and run length in vitro. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Kinesin-1 plays a major role in anterograde transport of intracellular cargo along microtubules. Currently, there is an ongoing debate of whether α-tubulin K40 acetylation directly enhances the velocity of kinesin-1 and its affinity to the microtubule ...

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Agrin promotes acetylcholine receptor clustering at the mammalian neuro-muscular junction by PI3K/GSK3ß²-mediated regulation of +TIPs and microtubule capture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013

Tubulin acetylation enhances lung cancer resistance to paclitaxel-induced cell death through Mcl-1 stabilization

open access: yesCell Death Discovery, 2021
The posttranslational modifications (PTMs) of microtubules have been reported to play an important role in cancer aggressiveness, including apoptosis resistance.

Artery‐on‐Chip Demonstrates Mechanical and Functional Features of Healthy and Diseased Living Smooth Muscle Tissue

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This article details the development of an artery‐on‐chip platform for in vitro arterial disease modeling and therapeutic discovery. It describes the fabrication of a fibrin biomaterial scaffold seeded with iPSC‐derived smooth muscle and endothelial cells, mimicking native artery properties. Two genetic disease models showcase the platform's ability to

FGF13 Deficiency Ameliorates Paclitaxel‐Induced Neuropathic Pain by Inhibiting VASH1‐Mediated Microtubule Detyrosination to Promote Mitophagy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
FGF13 is upregulated in DRG neurons of PIPNP model mice. DRG neuron‐specific knockout of FGF13 ameliorates PIPNP symptoms. Mechanistically, FGF13 potentiates microtubule detyrosination by promoting VASH1 binding to microtubules. FGF13 knockout suppresses VASH1‐mediated microtubule detyrosination and promotes α‐tubulin tyrosination.

Microtubule Modification: Acetylation Speeds Anterograde Traffic Flow [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 2007
Microtubules in neurites undergo multiple post-translational modifications. Recent work shows that neurites enriched in acetylated microtubules selectively support kinesin-mediated transport of the JNK regulator JIP-1 to growth cones.
