Copper sensing function of Drosophila metal-responsive transcription factor-1 is mediated by a tetranuclear Cu(I) cluster [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Drosophila melanogaster MTF-1 (dMTF-1) is a copper-responsive transcriptional activator that mediates resistance to Cu, as well as Zn and Cd. Here, we characterize a novel cysteine-rich domain which is crucial for sensing excess intracellular copper by ...

Cloning, chromosomal mapping and characterization of the human metal-regulatory transcription factor MTF-1

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 1994
Metallothioneins (MTs) are small cysteine-rich proteins that bind heavy metal ions such as zinc, cadmium and copper with high affinity, and have been functionally implicated in heavy metal detoxification and radical scavenging. Transcription of metallothioneins genes is induced by exposure of cells to heavy metals.

The mediating role of shame in the relationship between adolescent hairpulling and co‐occurring anxiety and depressive symptomology

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
This study found that shame is a significant mediator in positive associations between hairpulling severity and depression and anxiety severity within a community sample of adolescents with clinical levels of hair‐pulling severity. It also found high levels of trance‐pulling and post‐pulling rituals.

Characterization of the mouse gene for the heavy metal-responsive transcription factor MTF-1

open access: yesCell Stress & Chaperones, 2000
MTF-1 is a zinc finger transcription factor that mediates the cellular response to heavy metal stress; its targeted disruption in the mouse leads to liver decay and embryonic lethality at day E14. Recently, we have sequenced the entire MTF-1 gene in the compact genome of the pufferfish Fugu rubripes. Here we have defined the promoter sequences of human
