Lytic enzymes associated with defective prophages of Bacillus subtilis: Sequencing and characterization of the region comprising the N-acetylmuramoyl-L-alanine amidase gene of prophage PBSX [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology, 1994
Prophage induction in Bacillus subtilis strains 168, S31 and W23 is accompanied by synthesis of two endolysins. The synthesis of those of strain 168, with molecular masses of 32 and 34 kDa, was shown to be controlled by the repressor of the defective phage PBSX.

Development of a rapid antigen-based lateral flow assay for tick-borne spotted fever rickettsioses.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Tick-borne spotted fever rickettsioses (SFRs) continue to cause severe illness and death in otherwise-healthy individuals due to lack of a timely and reliable diagnostic laboratory test.

Enzymatic property and stabilization mechanism of LysBT1, a novel polyextremotolerant endolysin with a C-terminal S-layer homology domain

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology
Phage-encoded endolysins are getting increasing attention because of their potential to serve as alternative antimicrobials to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

N-Acetyimuramoyl-l-alkaline Amidase of Escherichia coli K12

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1983
Various experiments were carried out in an attempt to determine the possible physiological function of the N‐acetylmuramoyl‐l‐alanine amidase purified from Eschrrichia coli K12 on the basis of its activity on N‐acetyl‐muramoyl‐l‐alanyl‐d‐7‐glutamyl‐meso‐diaminopimelic acid [MurNAc‐lAla‐dGlu(msA2pm)].

Selenium Nanoparticles as a Co-adjuvant with Autolysin Recombinant Protein in the Development of a Vaccine Candidate Against Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus [PDF]

open access: yesمجله دانشکده پزشکی اصفهان, 2022
Background: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) causes various infections in susceptible individuals who are resistant to antibiotics, resulting in high morbidity and mortality rates.

Application of in vivo induced antigen technology (IVIAT) to Bacillus anthracis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2008
In vivo induced antigen technology (IVIAT) is an immuno-screening technique that identifies bacterial antigens expressed during infection and not during standard in vitro culturing conditions.

In vitro bactericidal and bacteriolytic activity of ceragenin CSA-13 against planktonic cultures and biofilms of Streptococcus pneumoniae and other pathogenic streptococci. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Ceragenin CSA-13, a cationic steroid, is here reported to show a concentration-dependent bactericidal/bacteriolytic activity against pathogenic streptococci, including multidrug-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Does virulence assessment of Vibrio anguillarum using sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) larvae correspond with genotypic and phenotypic characterization? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Vibriosis is one of the most ubiquitous fish diseases caused by bacteria belonging to the genus Vibrio such as Vibrio (Listonella) anguillarum. Despite a lot of research efforts, the virulence factors and mechanism of V. anguillarum are still

Saliva microbiota carry caries-specific functional gene signatures. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Human saliva microbiota is phylogenetically divergent among host individuals yet their roles in health and disease are poorly appreciated. We employed a microbial functional gene microarray, HuMiChip 1.0, to reconstruct the global functional profiles of ...

Vibrio fischeri Amidase Activity Is Required for Normal Cell Division, Motility, and Symbiotic Competence

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 2020
Peptidoglycan (PG) is a critical microbe-associated molecular pattern (MAMP) that is sloughed by cells of V. fischeri during symbiotic colonization of squid. Specifically, this process induces significant remodeling of a specialized symbiotic light organ
