Biological production of nicotinamide mononucleotide: a review

open access: yesCritical Reviews in Biotechnology
Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) presents significant therapeutic potential against aging-related conditions, such as Alzheimer’s disease, due to its consistent and strong pharmacological effects. Aside from its anti-aging effect, NMN is also an emerging noncanonical cofactor for orthogonal metabolic pathways in the field of biomanufacturing. This has

A chemo‐enzymatic colorimetric cascade for detecting ethylene glycol contamination

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
A chemo‐enzymatic cascade is developed for ethylene glycol (EG) detection. EG is oxidized by GoADH with C1‐mediated cofactor recycling to produce glycolaldehyde (GAL). GAL subsequently reacts with purpald to generate a detectable purple chromophore.

Energetic dysregulations in psychotic disorders: Targets for new therapeutics

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
The present review synthesizes literature documenting aberrant energy production and use, specifically related to mitochondrial and redox dysregulation, in psychotic disorders. Findings from different levels of investigation—genetic, cellular, and in vivo imaging—converge on aberrant energy metabolism as a hallmark of psychotic disorders.

MyD88‐Family Adaptors: Compartmentalised Signalling and Non‐Immune Functions

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
MyD88‐family adaptors coordinate receptor‐ and compartment‐specific innate immune signalling across plasma membrane and endosomal pathways. At the plasma membrane, TIRAP/MAL supports MyD88‐dependent signalling downstream of TLR2 and TLR4, whereas endosomal TLR7, TLR8 and TLR9 recruit MyD88 directly.

Structural insights into Plasmodium falciparum nicotinamide mononucleotide adenylyltransferase: oligomeric assembly

open access: yes, 2018
The biochemical pathways involved in nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) biosynthesis converge at the enzymatic step catalysed by nicotinamide mononucleotide adenylyltransferase (NMNAT, EC: 2.7.7.1).

Enhanced Production of β-Nicotinamide Mononucleotide with Exogenous Nicotinamide Addition in Saccharomyces boulardii-YS01

open access: yes, 2023
β-Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), as a key precursor of an essential coenzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+), is most recognized for its pathological treatment effects and anti-aging functions.

Novel Amino Acid Changes Increase Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxylase Output in planta

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Characterization of previously reported Arabidopsis mutants with increased aluminum (Al) resistance (alr) resulting from greater release of Al‐chelating malate identified three unique amino acid substitutions that each impacts PHOSPHOENOLPYRUVATE CARBOXYLASE 1, a key anaplerotic carbon fixation enzyme.

Understanding exosomes in facial esthetics and skin aging

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Skin aging is a multifactorial process mediated by intrinsic (genetic and metabolic) and extrinsic (environmental) factors leading to functional and structural deterioration, including wrinkles, loss of collagen and elastin, as well as various pigmentation disorders.

Nicotinamide Mononucleotide Pyrophosphorylase Activity in Animal Tissues

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1966
Abstract An enzyme which catalyzes the formation of nicotinamide mononucleotide in the presence of nicotinamide, 5-phosphoribosylpyrophosphate, adenosine triphosphate, and Mg++ has been purified from rat liver. The reaction is highly specific for ATP and is not substituted for by a variety of nucleotides.

NAD replenishment restores mitochondrial function and thermogenesis in the brown adipose tissue of mice with obesity

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend A high‐fat diet (HFD) induces brown adipose tissue (BAT) whitening, mitochondrial dysfunction (damaged cristae, fragmentation), reduced NAD+ levels and impaired thermogenesis, leading to lower energy expenditure and metabolic inflexibility.
