Regulation of NKG2D Ligand Gene Expression
Human Immunology, 2006The activating immunoreceptor NKG2D has seven known host ligands encoded by the MHC class I chain-related MIC and ULBP/RAET genes. Why there is such diversity of NKG2D ligands is not known but one hypothesis is that they are differentially expressed in different tissues in response to different stresses. To explore this, we compared expression patterns

The Journal of Immunology, 2020
Abstract NKG2D is an activating receptor on NK cells, NKT cells, and several types of T-cells. The ligands for NKG2D are expressed on distressed cells, and NKG2D-NKG2D ligand interaction plays a major role in the surveillance against tumors and viral infection. Several studies have reported the physiological role of NKG2D-positive cells,

Immunobiology of Human NKG2D and Its Ligands
2006The NKG2D-DAP10 receptor complex activates natural killer (NK) cells and costimulates effector T cell subsets upon engagement of ligands that can be conditionally expressed under physiologically harmful conditions such as microbial infections and malignancies. These characteristics have given rise to the widely embraced concept of immunorecognition of "

Arming cytotoxic lymphocytes for cancer immunotherapy by means of the NKG2D/NKG2D-ligand system
Expert Opinion on Biological Therapy, 2020The activating NKG2D receptor plays a central role in the immune recognition and elimination of abnormal self-cells by cytotoxic lymphocytes. NKG2D binding to cell stress-inducible ligands (NKG2DL) up-regulated on cancer cells facilitates their immunorecognition. Yet tumor cells utilize various escape mechanisms to avert NKG2D-based immunosurveillance.

How NKG2D Ligands Trigger Autoimmunity?
Human Immunology, 2006The function of NK and CD8 T cells in the elimination of infected, transformed, or stressed cells occurs together with tolerance to self, a property that is essential to prevent autoimmunity. Inappropriate expression of NK receptor ligands, leading to activation of autoreactive effector cells, might therefore trigger or exacerbate autoimmunity.

NKG2D ligands: key targets of the immune response
Trends in Immunology, 2008NKG2D is an activating receptor expressed by NK and T cells. NKG2D ligands show a restricted expression in normal tissues, but they are frequently overexpressed in cancer and infected cells. The binding of NKG2D to its ligands activates NK and T cells and promotes cytotoxic lysis of the cells expressing these molecules.

Viral inhibitors of NKG2D ligands for tumor surveillance
Expert Opinion on Therapeutic Targets, 2016Natural Killer cells (NK) are key for the innate immune response against tumors and viral infections. Several viral proteins evade host immune response and target the NK cell receptor NKG2D and its ligands. Areas covered: This review aimed to describe the viruses and their proteins that interfere with the NKG2D receptor and their ligands, and how these

NKG2D ligands as therapeutic targets.
Cancer immunity, 2014The Natural Killer Group 2D (NKG2D) receptor plays an important role in protecting the host from infections and cancer. By recognizing ligands induced on infected or tumor cells, NKG2D modulates lymphocyte activation and promotes immunity to eliminate ligand-expressing cells. Because these ligands are not widely expressed on healthy adult tissue, NKG2D

Alterations of NKG2D/ligands pathway in IBD
2008Background. The mucosal immune system balances the need of co-existing with commensal flora and food antigens while responding to pathogens. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), comprising Crohn disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), is a chronic inflam- matory condition of the gastrointestinal tract characterized by dysregulated innate and adaptive ...
