Integrative Physiology of Orexins and Orexin Receptors
Recent studies have established that the orexin system is a critical regulator of sleep/wake states. Deficiency of orexin signaling results in the sleep disorder narcolepsy-cataplexy in humans, dogs, and rodents. These findings have brought about the possibility of novel therapies for sleep disorders including narcolepsy-cataplexy.

Acute High Fat Diet Consumption Activates the Mesolimbic Circuit and Requires Orexin Signaling in a Mouse Model [PDF]
Overconsumption of palatable energy-dense foods has negative health implications and it is associated with obesity andseveral eating disorders. Currently, little is known about the neuronal circuitries activated by the acute ingestion of arewarding ...

Involvement of orexinergic system in psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders: A scoping review
Orexin is a neuropeptide secreted from lateral hypothalamus and pre-frontal cortex concerned in the wakefulness and excitement. This study aimed to review the possible neurobiological effect of orexin.

Hypocretin-1 receptors regulate the reinforcing and reward-enhancing effects of cocaine: pharmacological and behavioral genetics evidence. [PDF]
Considerable evidence suggests that transmission at hypocretin-1 (orexin-1) receptors (Hcrt-R1) plays an important role in the reinstatement of extinguished cocaine-seeking behaviors in rodents.

The hypocretin/orexin antagonist almorexant promotes sleep without impairment of performance in rats. [PDF]
The hypocretin receptor (HcrtR) antagonist almorexant (ALM) has potent hypnotic actions but little is known about neurocognitive performance in the presence of ALM.
