ADP‐heptose is a newly identified pathogen‐associated molecular pattern of Shigella flexneri [PDF]
During an infection, the detection of pathogens is mediated through the interactions between pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and pathogen recognition receptors. β-Heptose 1,7-bisphosphate (βHBP), an intermediate of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) biosynthesis pathway, was recently identified as a bacterial PAMP.

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

The Etiopathogenesis of Kawasaki Disease: Evolving Understanding of Diverse Triggers
Background Kawasaki disease (KD) is a leading cause of acquired heart disease in children. Evidence suggests that microbial and nonmicrobial triggers for KD differ across geographical regions and environmental conditions.

Characterization of peroxidase and catalase genes in defense mechanisms of Physcomitrella patens [PDF]
Systemic acquired resistance (SAR) and the hypersensitive response (HR) are two important induced defense mechanisms in plants. SAR is the development of an enhanced resistance to a pathogen due to a prior encounter.

Influence of Temperature on the Physiology and Virulence of the Insect Pathogen Serratia sp. Strain SCBI [PDF]
The physiology of a newly recognized Serratia species, termed South African Caenorhabditis briggsae Isolate (SCBI), which is both a nematode mutualist and an insect pathogen, was investigated and compared to that of Serratia marcescens Db11, a broad-host-

Viral Capsid Is a Pathogen-Associated Molecular Pattern in Adenovirus Keratitis
Human adenovirus (HAdV) infection of the human eye, in particular serotypes 8, 19 and 37, induces the formation of corneal subepithelial leukocytic infiltrates. Using a unique mouse model of adenovirus keratitis, we studied the role of various virus-associated molecular patterns in subsequent innate immune responses of resident corneal cells to HAdV-37

Hierarchy and Roles of Pathogen-Associated Molecular Pattern-Induced Responses in Nicotiana benthamiana [PDF]
Abstract Our current understanding of pathogen-associated molecular pattern (PAMP)-triggered immunity signaling pathways in plants is limited due to the redundancy of several components or the lethality of mutants in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana). To overcome this, we used a virus-induced gene silencing-based approach in combination

Mechanisms of IgE‐mediated food allergy and the role of allergen‐specific B cells
Food allergy arises when allergen‐specific B cells preferentially produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against harmless foods. This article explains the mechanisms driving IgE‐mediated reactions, highlights the central role of these B cells, and discusses how natural tolerance (NT) and oral immunotherapy (OIT) can reshape allergic immune responses.

Identification of Nicotiana benthamiana Genes Involved in Pathogen-Associated Molecular Pattern–Triggered Immunity [PDF]
In order to identify components of pathogen-associated molecular pattern–triggered immunity (PTI) pathways in Nicotiana benthamiana, we conducted a large-scale forward-genetics screen using virus-induced gene silencing and a cell-death-based assay for assessing PTI.
