Gene regulatory networks that control the specification of neural-crest cells in the lamprey [PDF]
The lamprey is the only basal vertebrate in which large-scale gene perturbation analyses are feasible at present. Studies on this unique animal model promise to contribute both to the understanding of the basic neural-crest gene regulatory network ...

Pioneer and nonpioneer factor cooperation drives lineage specific chromatin opening
Pioneer transcription factor Pax7 specifies melanotrope cells, which then allows for the binding of Tpit transcription factor. Here, authors find that while binding of heterochromatin targeting by Pax7 is independent of Tpit, Pax7-dependent chromatin ...

Prenatal muscle development in a mouse model for the secondary dystroglycanopathies [PDF]
The defective glycosylation of α-dystroglycan is associated with a group of muscular dystrophies that are collectively referred to as the secondary dystroglycanopathies.

Clinicopathological Characteristics and Outcomes of Genitourinary Rhabdomyosarcoma in Two Girls
ABSTRACT Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a soft tissue neoplasm accounting for about 8% of solid tumors in children. There are mainly four histologic subtypes of RMS: embryonal, alveolar, spindle cell/sclerosing, and pleomorphic. The genitourinary tract is the second most affected primary site of RMS. Genitourinary RMS is more common in young boys than girls.

ABSTRACT By 2050, the global population is projected to reach ~10 billion, leading to 50% increase in food demand. This growth will place immense pressure on agricultural systems that are already struggling with the impacts of climate change and resource depletion.

Targeting a therapeutic LIF transgene to muscle via the immune system ameliorates muscular dystrophy. [PDF]
Many potentially therapeutic molecules have been identified for treating Duchenne muscular dystrophy. However, targeting those molecules only to sites of active pathology is an obstacle to their clinical use.

What determines growth potential and juvenile quality of farmed fish species? [PDF]
Enhanced production of high quality and healthy fry is a key target for a successful and competitive expansion of the aquaculture industry. Although large quantities of fish larvae are produced, survival rates are often low or highly variable and growth ...

Pax7 is required for establishment of the xanthophore lineage in zebrafish embryos
The pigment pattern of many animal species is a result of the arrangement of different types of pigment-producing chromatophores. The zebrafish has three different types of chromatophores: black melanophores, yellow xanthophores, and shimmering iridophores arranged in a characteristic pattern of golden and blue horizontal stripes.
