If phosphatidylserine is the death knell, a new phosphatidylserine-specific receptor is the bellringer [PDF]
Recognition of phosphatidylserine (PtdSer) is essential for engulfment of apoptotic cells by mammalian phagocytes. Engagement of a new phosphatidylserine-specific receptor (PtdSerR) appears to be necessary for uptake of apoptotic cells. Many other mammalian receptors have been described to function in the clearance of apoptotic cells.

Untargeted Lipidomic Analysis to Broadly Characterize the Effects of Pathogenic and Non-Pathogenic Staphylococci on Mammalian Lipids [PDF]
Modification of the host lipidome via secreted enzymes is an integral, but often overlooked aspect of bacterial pathogenesis. In the current era of prevalent antibiotic resistance, knowledge regarding critical host pathogen lipid interactions has the ...

Influenza A matrix protein M1 induces lipid membrane deformation via protein multimerization [PDF]
The matrix protein M1 of the Influenza A virus (IAV) is supposed to mediate viral assembly and budding at the plasma membrane (PM) of infected cells. In order for a new viral particle to form, the PM lipid bilayer has to bend into a vesicle toward the ...

Hemagglutinating activity of phosphatidylserine [PDF]
In [l] we reported the structure and hemagglutinating activity of an ornithine-containing lipid of Bordetella pertussis. The proposed structure of the aminolipid is 3-hydroxyhexadecanoic acid amide-linked to ornithine and esterified to the second hexadecanoic acid. The aminolipid strongly agglutinated human and rabbit erythrocytes. Here, I describe the

Tim-4 in Health and Disease: Friend or Foe?
T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain containing 4 (Tim-4) is a phosphatidylserine receptor and is selectively expressed on antigen presenting cells. Recently, Tim-4 was reported to be expressed on iNKT cells, B1 cells, and tumor cells, suggesting it ...
