Microphysiological Glomerular Filtration Barriers: Current Insights, Innovations, and Future Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, Volume 9, Issue 9, September 2025.
The glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) is the first step of blood filtration by the kidneys. The concerning increase of kidney diseases makes the development of new models essential. In this context, microphysiological glomerular filtration barriers focus on closely reproducing the physiological architecture of the in vivo GFB: podocytes, glomerular ...

Time-resolved fluoroimmunoassay improves sensitivity in the diagnosis of primary membranous nephropathy with low phospholipase A2 receptor antibody titer

open access: yesScientific Reports
To evaluate the diagnostic utility of time-resolved fluoroimmunoassay (TRFIA) for detecting serum anti-Phospholipase A2 Receptor (PLA2R) antibodies, specifically the IgG (PLA2R-IgG) and IgG4 subclass (PLA2R-IgG4).

Serum phospholipase A2 receptor antibody is associated with thrombogenesis in patients with idiopathic membranous nephropathy

open access: yesKidney & Blood Pressure Research
Introduction: Patients with idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN) are particularly susceptible to thromboembolism (TE). The phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) antibody (Ab) has been indicated to work as an independent risk predictor for venous TE in IMN.

Prevalence of Enhanced Granular Expression of Thrombospondin Type-1 Domain-Containing 7A in the Glomeruli of Japanese Patients with Idiopathic Membranous Nephropathy. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Membranous nephropathy (MN) is a leading cause of nephrotic syndrome in adults. Autoantibodies against M-type phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) and thrombospondin type-1 domain-containing 7A (THSD7A), which mainly belong to the IgG4 subclass, were ...

Contemporary Perspectives on Chronic Renal Disorders

open access: yesChronic Diseases and Translational Medicine, Volume 11, Issue 2, Page 89-104, June 2025.
ABSTRACT The prevalence of renal diseases and its associated burden on healthcare have tremendously risen in the past few years. From simple markers assessing kidney function, current renal research delves into understanding the diseases at the cellular and molecular levels and not just at treating, but at improving quality of life, arresting ...

Analysis of Differentially Expressed Proteins Involved in Shrimp and Crab Allergies

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, Volume 39, Issue 12, June 2025.
Using proteomics techniques, we identified 90 differentially expressed proteins in children with shrimp and crab allergies compared to normal controls, with 82 upregulated and 8 downregulated proteins. Validation of MRC2 upregulation by ELISA in allergic patients highlights the potential role of this protein in the allergic response.

Autoantibodies against phospholipase A2 receptor in Korean patients with membranous nephropathy. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The data were presented in abstract form at the 45(th) meeting of the American Society of Nephrology, October 30-November 04 2012, San Diego, CA, USA. Circulating autoantibodies against M-type phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) are important pathogenic ...

Managing Pulmonary Embolism Associated With Renal Vein Thrombosis During Nephrotic Syndrome: Usefulness of Rivaroxaban Level Monitoring

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 6, June 2025.
This clinical experience confirms the efficacy and safety of rivaroxaban for the treatment of thromboembolic events in patients with nephrotic syndrome but also suggests the usefulness of monitoring drug levels when the embolic event occurs during a period of significant proteinuria, such as at the time of nephrotic syndrome diagnosis.
