Effects of Pleiotrophin on endothelial and inflammatory cells: Pro-angiogenic and anti-inflammatory properties and potential role for vascular bio-prosthesis endothelialization

open access: yes, 2015
Purpose: One of the limitations emerged with both synthetic and degradable vascular grafts is the lack of endothelialization after implantation that is known to be the main reason leading to unfavourable outcomes.

Metabolic Reprogramming Driven by Trophoblasts and Decidual XCR1+PMN‐MDSC Crosstalk Controls Adverse Outcomes Associated With Advanced Maternal Age

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 16, 18 March 2026.
The interaction between trophoblasts and decidual polymorphonuclear myeloid‐derived suppressor cells (dPMN‐MDSCs) via the XCL1–XCR1 axis is crucial for fetal development during the third trimester. Disruption of this axis impairs FOXO1 activity and causes metabolic imbalance in dPMN‐MDSCs, contributing to adverse outcomes associated with advanced ...

Chronic cerebral hypoperfusion exacerbates amyloid and tau pathology by impairing glymphatic transport via AQP4‐ and VEGF‐mediated pathways: insights from a vascular to mixed‐type dementia model

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH) is a major contributor to cognitive impairment; however, its underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. METHODS We investigated CCH‐induced glymphatic dysfunction and neurodegeneration in amyloid precursor protein (APP)/presenilin 1 (PS1) and wild‐type mice.

Image_2_Astrocyte-Derived Pleiotrophin Mitigates Late-Stage Autoimmune CNS Inflammation.jpeg

open access: yes, 2022
Astrocytes are the most abundant glial cells in the central nervous system (CNS) with the capacity to sense and react to injury and inflammatory events. While it has been widely documented that astrocytes can exert tissue-degenerative functions, less is ...

Chronic myelogenous leukemia stem cells require cell-autonomous pleiotrophin signaling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) induce molecular remission in the majority of patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), but the persistence of CML stem cells hinders cure and necessitates indefinite TKI therapy.

Bone turnover in wild type and pleiotrophin-transgenic mice housed for three months in the International Space Station (ISS).

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Bone is a complex dynamic tissue undergoing a continuous remodeling process. Gravity is a physical force playing a role in the remodeling and contributing to the maintenance of bone integrity.

Midkine Overexpression Promotes Functional Recovery After Spinal Cord Injury by Enhancing Microglial Efferocytosis Via LRP‐1

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 3, March 2026.
Midkine (MDK) promotes functional recovery after spinal cord injury by enhancing microglial efferocytosis, reducing neuroinflammation, and decreasing neuronal apoptosis. Overexpression of MDK activates the AKT/mTOR pathway, upregulates LRP‐1 and BDNF, and drives microglia toward an anti‐inflammatory phenotype.

Chondroitin Sulfate Proteoglycans in CNS Development and Pathophysiology

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience Research, Volume 104, Issue 3, March 2026.
Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs) are critical components of the extracellular matrix in the central nervous system (CNS). In the developing CNS, CSPGs regulate neural precursor cells, neuronal migration, axon guidance, synapse organization, and peri‐neuronal net assembly.

Pleiotrophin triggers inflammation and increased peritoneal permeability leading to peritoneal fibrosis

open access: yes, 2012
Long-term peritoneal dialysis induces peritoneal fibrosis with submesothelial fibrotic tissue. Although angiogenesis and inflammatory mediators are involved in peritoneal fibrosis, precise molecular mechanisms are undefined.
