Dicentrine, an aporphine alkaloid, exhibits potent in vitro antileishmanial activity against Leishmania species with high selectivity and low macrophage cytotoxicity. Mechanistic studies reveal that the compound triggers parasite death possibly by inducing mitochondrial membrane disruption and oxidative stress.

Murine T Cell‐Dependent Response Affects Leishmania amazonensis Amastigote Survival and Virulence
ABSTRACT Our group has previously described the infection course of Leishmania amazonensis in BALB/c and BALB/cnu/nu mice, which have distinct T‐cell dependent responses. In this study, lesion‐derived amastigotes exhibited differential protein expression in a host‐dependent manner.

Study on the Occurrence of Genetic Exchange Among Parasites of the Leishmania mexicana Complex
In Leishmania, genetic exchange has been experimentally demonstrated to occur in the sand fly vector and in promastigote axenic cultures through a meiotic-like process.

Stage-specific pathways of Leishmania infantum chagasi entry and phagosome maturation in macrophages. [PDF]
The life stages of Leishmania spp. include the infectious promastigote and the replicative intracellular amastigote. Each stage is phagocytosed by macrophages during the parasite life cycle.

Exploring Biological Properties of Manganese(II)‐Phenanthroline‐Based Complexes: In Vitro Insights
Four Mn(II) complexes with phenanthroline derivatives were studied. These compounds were tested against several parasites and different human cancer cells. Despite its cytotoxicity on breast cancer, DNA seems not to be the main biological target. These complexes can drive the design and development of new metal‐based agents with improved biological ...

Leishmania donovani development in Phlebotomus argentipes: comparison of promastigote- and amastigote-initiated infections. [PDF]
Leishmania parasites alternate in their life cycle between promastigote stages that develop in the gut of phlebotomine sand flies and amastigotes residing inside phagocytic cells of vertebrate hosts.

Butanol Fraction of Kelussia odoratissima Mozaff Inhibits the Growth of Leishmania major Promastigote and Amastigote [PDF]
Naturally derived compounds have been used to treat several infectious diseases including leishmaniasis. The study aimed to investigate the in vitro effects of Kelussia odoratissima Mozaff extract on Leishmania major promastigote and amastigote.

Antileishmanial activity of polycyclic derivatives
33 polycyclic derivatives have been studied and tested on Leishmania donovani and L. major promastigotes. Their antileishmanial activity was assessed in vitro and an assay of their cytotoxicity was realized on human myelomonocytic cell line.

This work highlights the satisfactory pharmacokinetic profile of two benzenesulfonylpiperazine lead candidates, followed by in vivo assessment in a murine model of visceral leishmaniasis. This assessment identified compound 2 as moderately active at a lower dose, but its efficacy increased at higher doses, though with concerns regarding safety.
