Structural and dynamic features of cagrilintide binding to calcitonin and amylin receptors [PDF]
Obesity is a major and increasingly prevalent chronic metabolic disease with numerous comorbidities. While recent incretin-based therapies have provided pharmaceutical inroads into treatment of obesity, there remains an ongoing need for additional ...

It has been suggested that skeletal nerves fibers may play important roles in neuro-osteogenic interactions. This view is partly based upon information obtained from immunohistochemical studies, chemical and surgical denervation experiments and clinical observations in patients with stroke and spinal cord injury, indicating the presence of a network of

Medullary thyroid cancer originates from parafollicular C-cells in the thyroid. Despite successful thyroidectomy, localizing remnant cancer cells in patients with elevated calcitonin and carcinoembryonic antigen levels remains a challenge.

Human placental calcitonin receptors [PDF]
Receptors for the hypocalcaemic hormone, calcitonin (CT), have been identified in a membrane fraction prepared from term human placentae. Binding of 125I-labelled salmon CT (125I-sCT) to the membranes was time- and temperature-dependent, saturable (Bmax. 58 +/- 11 fmol/mg of protein), of high affinity (Kd 80 +/- 21 pM) and poorly reversible.

This study investigated postoperative complications after surgery for medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) in Europe. Hypoparathyroidism, recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy and bleeding requiring reoperation occurred in 170 (26·2 per cent), 62 (13·7 per cent) and 17 (2·6 per cent) patients respectively.

Salmon Calcitonin Exerts an Antidepressant Effect by Activating Amylin Receptors
Depressive disorder is defined as a psychiatric disease characterized by the core symptoms of anhedonia and learned helplessness. Currently, the treatment of depression still calls for medications with high effectiveness, rapid action, and few side ...

Abstract Background Medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) standard of care includes multikinase inhibitors (MKIs), which can exacerbate disease‐related diarrhea, primarily because of non‐RET kinase inhibition. We report diarrhea and other patient‐reported outcomes (PROs) with selpercatinib, a highly selective RET inhibitor, among patients with RET‐mutant MTC ...

Calcitonin and Bone Physiology: In Vitro, In Vivo, and Clinical Investigations
Calcitonin was discovered as a peptide hormone that was known to reduce the calcium levels in the systemic circulation. This hypocalcemic effect is produced due to multiple reasons such as inhibition of bone resorption or suppression of calcium release ...
