Interleukin-4, interleukin-4 receptor, and interleukin-18 polymorphisms and rheumatoid arthritis: a meta-analysis

Immunological Investigations, 2013
The aim of this study was to determine whether the functional interleukin-4 (IL-4) -590 C/T, IL-4 receptor (IL-4R) 1902 G/A, IL-18 -607 C/A, and -137 G/C polymorphisms polymorphisms confer susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis (RA).Meta-analysis was conducted on the associations between these IL-4, IL-4R, and IL-18 polymorphisms and RA.A total of 12 ...

A computer model of the interleukin‐4/receptor complex

Proteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, 1993
AbstractInterleukin‐4 is a member of the cytokine family, a group of related messenger proteins which collectively help to moderate and control the immune response. It is believed that the folding topology of the β‐sheets of the interleukin‐4 receptor (IL4R) is the same as that seen in the crystal structure of CD4. Although the sequence identity is low,

Interleukin-4 receptor signaling pathways in asthma pathogenesis

Trends in Molecular Medicine, 2004
Asthma is a chronic allergic inflammatory disease, the initiation and progression of which is dependent on the cytokines interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-13 acting through related receptor complexes. Disease pathogenesis is effected by intracellular signaling pathways that couple primarily to specific motifs within the intracellular domain of the IL-4 ...

Interleukin-4 Receptor Signalling Mechanisms and Their Biological Significance

1998
These studies describe key elements of the means through which the IL-4 receptor transduces functions of IL-4 and show relationships between these biochemical events and the major biological consequences of IL-4 action. In large measure, the control of IL-4-mediated growth and gene activation are segregated to different regions of the cytosolic domain ...

Regulation of interleukin 4 receptors on human T cells

International Immunology, 1990
Human recombinant interleukin 4 (IL-4) was modified with biotin-N-hydroxysuccinimide and used to examine the expression of human IL-4 receptors (IL-4R) on activated peripheral blood T cells by flow cytometry. Freshly isolated T cells expressed only a low level of IL-4R which remained unchanged when cells were cultured in the absence of stimuli.

[Atopy and interleukin-4 receptor].

Rinsho byori. The Japanese journal of clinical pathology, 1999
Both IL-4 and IL-13 induce IgE synthesis in B cells by binding to their functional receptors on target cells. These receptors are considered to be composed of heterodimers and both share the IL-4R alpha chain (IL-4R alpha) as a component. Atopy is an inherited tendency, underlying asthma, rhinitis and eczema, and generating high nonspecific IgE and/or ...

Soluble interleukin-4 receptor (sIL-4R) in allergic diseases

Inflammation Research, 1999
The mediator interleukin-4 (IL-4) plays an important role in the development of allergic inflammatory responses. IL-4 controls the production of IgE, expands IL-4 producing T cell subsets and stabilises effector cells functions. Based on this concept, it was aimed to neutralize secreted IL-4 molecules using recombinant soluble IL-4 receptors.

Structure and function of interleukin-4 and its receptor

1995
Interleukin-4 (IL-4) is a highly pleiotropic cytokine which has been extensively studied in the last decade. It is predominantly produced by activated T lymphocytes, mast cells, and basophils [1–5]. Consistent with the pleiotropic nature of this molecule, the receptors for IL-4 have been identified on many different cell types, including hematopoietic ...
