Characterization of high-affinity receptors for interleukin 5 on interleukin 5-dependent cell lines. [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1989
Interleukin 5 (IL-5) is a glycosylated polypeptide that acts as a key factor for B-cell growth and differentiation. We demonstrated previously that there are two classes (high and low affinity) of IL-5 receptors on murine chronic B-cell leukemic cells (BCL1-B20).

Identification of receptor-binding domains on human interleukin 5 and design of an interleukin 5-derived receptor antagonist. [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1995
A detailed structure-function analysis of human interleukin 5 (hIL5) has been performed. The hIL5 receptor is composed of two different polypeptide chains, the alpha and beta subunits. The alpha subunit alone is sufficient for ligand binding, but association with the beta subunit leads to a 2- to 3-fold increase in binding affinity.

Activation of Liver X Receptor Induces Macrophage Interleukin-5 Expression [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2012
IL-5 stimulates production of T15/EO6 IgM antibodies that can block the uptake of oxidized low density lipoprotein by macrophages, whereas a deficiency in macrophage IL-5 expression accelerates development of atherosclerosis. Liver X receptors (LXRs) are ligand-activated transcription factors that can induce macrophage ABCA1 expression and cholesterol ...

Epitope-labeled Soluble Human Interleukin-5 (IL-5) Receptors [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1995
The human receptor for the potent eosinophilopoietic cytokine interleukin-5 (IL-5) consists of two components: a 60-kDa ligand-binding α chain (IL-5αR) and a 130-kDa β chain (IL-5βR).

Targeting the Interleukin-5 Pathway for Treatment of Eosinophilic Conditions Other than Asthma

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2018
Improved understanding of the contribution of eosinophils to various chronic inflammatory conditions, most notably allergic asthma, has encouraged development of monoclonal antibodies specifically targeting mediators and surface receptors involved in ...

Interleukin-5 and IL-5 receptor in health and diseases

open access: yesProceedings of the Japan Academy, Series B, 2011
While interleukin-5 (IL-5) is initially identified by its ability to support the growth and terminal differentiation of mouse B cells in vitro into antibody-secreting cells, recombinant IL-5 exerts pleiotropic activities on various target cells including B cells, eosinophils, and basophils.

Covalent modification of the interleukin‐5 receptor by isothiazolones leads to inhibition of the binding of interleukin‐5 [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1994
Using a fusion protein of the human interleukin‐5‐receptor α chain (hILSRα) and the human IgG Cγ3 chain (hIL5Rα‐hγ3), we have developed a solid‐phase assay for high‐flux screening of a collection of synthetic compounds. We report on the identification of isothiazolone derivatives as potent inhibitors of binding of interleukin‐5 (IL5) to the hIL5Ra, as ...

IL-5 and GM-CSF, but Not IL-3, Promote the Proliferative Properties of Inflammatory-like and Lung Resident-like Eosinophils in the Blood of Asthma Patients

open access: yesCells, 2022
Blood eosinophils can be described as inflammatory-like (iEOS-like) and lung-resident-like (rEOS-like) eosinophils. This study is based on the hypothesis that eosinophilopoetins such as interleukin (IL)-3 and IL-5 and granulocyte-macrophage colony ...

Argon preconditioning protects neuronal cells with a Toll-like receptor-mediated effect

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research, 2023
The noble gas argon has the potential to protect neuronal cells from cell death. So far, this effect has been studied in treatment after acute damage. Preconditioning using argon has not yet been investigated.

Sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) induced interleukin-8 (IL-8) release is mediated by S1P receptor 2 and nuclear factor κB in BEAS-2B cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The airway epithelium may release pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines in the asthmatic airway. Sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) is a bioactive lipid, increased in the airways of asthmatics, that may trigger the release of the potent neutrophil ...
