SERINC5 knockout in A549 cells, related to Fig 1.
SERINC5 was knocked out with CRISPR/Cas9 in A549 cells. Single cell clones were selected with puromycin (0.8 ug/ml). Genomic DNA was extracted from the selected cell clones and amplified for exon 2 of SERINC5 gene.

The role of Nef-mediated SERINC5 down-regulation on HIV-1 disease progression. [PDF]
Masters Degree. University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban.HIV-1 Nef is a small accessory protein that plays a vital role in enhancing HIV-1 pathogenesis, evidenced by a strongly attenuated disease course following infection with a virus with gross Nef ...

SERINC as a Restriction Factor to Inhibit Viral Infectivity and the Interaction with HIV
The serine incorporator 5 (SERINC5) is a recently discovered restriction factor that inhibits viral infectivity by preventing fusion. Retroviruses have developed strategies to counteract the action of SERINC5, such as the expression of proteins like ...

Nef is a multifunctional viral protein that has the ability to downregulate cell surface molecules, including CD4 and major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC-I) and, as recently shown, also members of the serine incorporator family (SERINC).

SERINC5 does not affect IAV binding to the cell surface.
A: Levels of (α-2,6) and (α-2,3) sialic acid linkages at the surface of A549 SERINC5-overexpressing cells Cells were fixed and incubated with FITC-conjugated Sambucus nigra lectin (SNA) to detect (α-2,6) sialic acid linkages and biotinylated Maackia ...

Restriction of Influenza A Virus by SERINC5
Serine incorporator 5 (Ser5), a transmembrane protein, has recently been identified as a host antiviral factor against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 and gammaretroviruses like murine leukemia viruses (MLVs). It is counteracted by HIV-1 Nef and MLV

Current drugs for HIV-1: from challenges to potential in HIV/AIDS
The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) persists in latently infected CD4+T cells and integrates with the host genome until cell death. Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is associated with HIV-1.

Antiviral HIV-1 SERINC restriction factors disrupt virus membrane asymmetry
The host proteins SERINC3 and SERINC5 are HIV-1 restriction factors that reduce infectivity when incorporated into the viral envelope. The HIV-1 accessory protein Nef abrogates incorporation of SERINCs via binding to intracellular loop 4 (ICL4). Here, we

Contribution of endosomal proteins EHD1 and EHD4 to the HIV‐1 replication cycle
EHD1 and EHD4, two key trafficking proteins, regulate multiple stages of HIV‐1 infection: In producer cells, they help produce fully infectious virus particles, regulate Envelope protein incorporation in a cell‐type‐dependent manner, and limit the accumulation of antiviral IFITM proteins in virions.
