De novo l-serine biosynthesis in the mammalian astrocytes proceeds via a linear, three-step pathway (the phosphorylated pathway) catalysed by 3-phosphoglycerate dehydrogenase (PHGDH), phosphoserine aminotransferase (PSAT) and phosphoserine phosphatase ...

Parallel analysis of global garlic gene expression and alliin content following leaf wounding
Background Allium sativum (garlic) is an economically important food source and medicinal plant rich in sulfides and other protective substances such as alliin, the precursor of allicin biosynthesis. Cysteine, serine and sulfur is the precursor of alliin

The malate-aspartate shuttle is important for de novo serine biosynthesis
Summary: The malate-aspartate shuttle (MAS) is a redox shuttle that transports reducing equivalents across the inner mitochondrial membrane while recycling cytosolic NADH to NAD+.

Biosynthesis of L-Serine Ethanolamine Phosphodiester [PDF]
FROM recent work1 it would seem that L-serine ethanol-amine phosphodiester (L-SEP) is found only in the tissues of fish, amphibians, reptiles and birds. D-SEP, on the other hand, appears to be confined to earthworms2, where it is the biological precursor of lombricine3. The status of the work on both isomers has been summarized by Ennor and Rosenberg4.

Application of serine integrases for secondary metabolite pathway assembly in Streptomyces
Serine integrases have been shown to be efficient tools for metabolic pathway assembly. To further improve the flexibility and efficiency of pathway engineering via serine integrases, we explored how multiple orthogonally active serine integrases can be ...

The role of serine metabolism in lung cancer: From oncogenesis to tumor treatment
Metabolic reprogramming is an important hallmark of malignant tumors. Serine is a non-essential amino acid involved in cell proliferation. Serine metabolism, especially the de novo serine synthesis pathway, forms a metabolic network with glycolysis ...

Regulation of cyclic lipopeptide biosynthesis in Pseudomonas fluorescens by the ClpP protease [PDF]
Cyclic lipopeptides produced by Pseudomonas species exhibit potent surfactant and broad-spectrum antibiotic properties. Their biosynthesis is governed by large multimodular nonribosomal peptide synthetases, but little is known about the genetic ...

A STUDY OF THE MECHANISM OF SERINE BIOSYNTHESIS
Elwyn et al. (1, 2) have demonstrated that the C1 unit formed from serine is of the oxidation level of formaldehyde rather than formate. They compared the dilution of the Cl4 and deuterium of 2 ,3-deuterio-3-C14,N15L-serine that occurred during the conversion of the serine B-carbon to methyl groups in rats.

Serine Biosynthesis in Desulfovibrio desulfuricans [PDF]
Cell-free extracts of Desulfovibrio desulfuricans possess enzymes which catalyze the synthesis of serine from 3-phosphoglycerate via the intermediates phosphohydroxypyruvate and phosphoserine.
