Proteostatic Regulation of MEP and Shikimate Pathways by Redox-Activated Photosynthesis Signaling in Plants Exposed to Small Fungal Volatiles

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
Microorganisms produce volatile compounds (VCs) with molecular masses of less than 300 Da that promote plant growth and photosynthesis. Recently, we have shown that small VCs of less than 45 Da other than CO2 are major determinants of plant responses to ...

Thirty years of glyphosate‐resistant crops and weeds: Current situation and future prospects

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Since 1996, when the first glyphosate‐resistant crop was commercialized and the first resistant weed was reported, resistance has expanded globally. This review analyzes emergence patterns across weed species, crops, regions, resistance mechanisms, and herbicides.

Shikimate pathway disruption in yeast induces metabolite self‐assembly into toxic aggregates

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, shikimate pathway disruption induces toxic metabolite assemblies. Deleting ARO4 plus phenylalanine (Phe) feeding causes Phenylalanine accumulation, lowers ARO3 activity, and triggers amyloid‐like fibril formation. Deleting ARO3 plus tyrosine (Tyr) feeding leads to Tyrosine buildup and similar fibril assembly.

The multidimensional regulation roles and mechanisms of calcium in fruit quality

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review explores how calcium signaling molecule integrates plant hormones, environmental cues, and developmental signals to influence external fruit traits, internal nutritional properties, and physiological disorders. ABSTRACT Calcium (Ca2+), a dual‐functional mineral that serves both as an essential structural factor and a signaling molecule ...

ARF6 integrates auxin and gibberellin signaling to promote stone cell lignification in pear via the HB49‐MYB169 module

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Stone cells originate from secondary cell wall thickening and contain abundant lignin. Their excessive accumulation compromises pear fruit quality, yet the endogenous hormonal mechanisms governing stone cell formation remain unclear. Here, co‐expression network analysis using transcriptome data – the flesh of 206 sand pear accessions sampled at

PPT1‐mediated plastidic phosphoenolpyruvate import enhances fatty acid biosynthesis in sugar‐rich tissues

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Metabolic engineering of vegetative tissues for lipid production holds transformative potential for sustainable biofuels, yet achieving sufficient yields remains challenging. Here, we present a strategy to enhance fatty acid synthesis by redirecting cytosolic phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) into plastids through overexpression of the plastidial ...

Climate change and crop resilience: harnessing metabolomics for predicting stress tolerance

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summarised methodology for metabolite biomarker discovery and genomic targets selection for those metabolites to predict high‐throughput phenotypic and agronomic traits of interest for direct uptake in breeding programmes. Summary Global warming is driving climate change to levels not experienced since the advent of agriculture, primarily due to ...
