TALEN‐mediated gene targeting in porcine spermatogonia [PDF]
Spermatogonia represent a diploid germ cell population that includes spermatogonial stem cells. In this report, we describe new methods for isolation of highly enriched porcine spermatogonia based on light scatter properties, and for targeted mutagenesis in porcine spermatogonia using nucleofection and TALENs.

Abstract Background It is well‐established that spermatogenesis, semen quality, and reproductive hormones are interlinked. It is, however, less well‐described how various specific testicular histopathologies are linked to reproductive hormones and semen quality.

Selenoproteins in mammalian spermatogenesis:role of the nuclear GPx4 [PDF]
The selenoprotein Phospholipid Hydroperoxide Glutathione Peroxidase (PHGPx/GPx4) is an enzyme unique among the various GPxs, because it is able to use protein thiols, beside glutathione, The GPx4 gene encodes for three isoforms having different ...

Hormad1 mutation disrupts synaptonemal complex formation, recombination, and chromosome segregation in mammalian meiosis [PDF]
Meiosis is unique to germ cells and essential for reproduction. During the first meiotic division, homologous chromosomes pair, recombine, and form chiasmata.

Cell Cycle of Spermatogonia in Mouse Testis [PDF]
This report measures the spermatogonial cell cycles and their constituent phases of proliferating type A, intermediate (In), and type B cells in the testis of the young mouse, and analyzes the cell cycle and cell population kinetic parameters, such as growth fractions and cell-birth rates, from /sup 3/HTdR autoradiographic data.

Spermatogonia Differentiation Requires Retinoic Acid Receptor γ [PDF]
Vitamin A is instrumental to mammalian reproduction. Its metabolite, retinoic acid (RA), acts in a hormone-like manner through binding to and activating three nuclear receptor isotypes, RA receptor (RAR)α (RARA), RARβ, and RARγ (RARG). Here, we show that 1) RARG is expressed by A aligned (Aal) spermatogonia, as well as during the transition from Aal to

The use of deidentified organ donor testes for research
Abstract Our knowledge of testis development and function mainly comes from research using mammalian model organisms, primarily the mouse. However, there are integral differences between men and other mammalian species regarding cellular composition and expression profiles during fetal and post‐natal testis development and in the mature testis ...

The effect of immobilization stress on the HPG axis (hypothalamic - pituitary - gonad) hormones and the number of spermatogonia [PDF]
Background & Objective: Stress has different effects on the living organisms. In this study the effect of immobilization stress the HPG (hypothalamic - pituitary - gonad axis) hormones secretion and the number of spermatogonia was studied in adult male ...

Presence and localization of a 30-kDa basic fibroblast growth factor-like protein in rodent testes [PDF]
We have used a recently characterized rabbit antiserum against basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), which recognizes various forms of bFGF, to examine the presence and localization of bFGF in the testes of adult rats and mice and the 5-day-old rat.

Pharmacogenetics of follicle‐stimulating hormone action in the male
Abstract Male factor infertility (MFI) is involved in half of the cases of couple infertility. The follicle‐stimulating hormone (FSH) therapy is considered efficient to improve semen parameters and pregnancy rate in patients with idiopathic MFI, following the lesson learned from hypogonadotropic hypogonadism.
