The Spermine Oxidase/Spermine Axis Coordinates ATG5‐Mediated Autophagy to Orchestrate Renal Senescence and Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Decreased plasma spermine levels are associated with kidney dysfunction. However, the role of spermine in kidney disease remains largely unknown. Herein, it is demonstrated that spermine oxidase (SMOX), a key enzyme governing polyamine metabolism, is ...

Antimycotic Effect of Spermine.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1958
Summary1) Spermine inhibited growth of several species of yeasts, Saccharomyces and Debaryomyces species being the most sensitive. The antimycotic effect of spermine was more pronounced at an alkaline pH and was antagonized by inorganic salts. The adsorption of spermine by yeast cells was significantly smaller than by Staph. aureus.

Genetic and Phenotypic Features of the Five Known Polyaminopathies: A Critical Narrative Review

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Polyaminopathies are a recently described family of rare genetic neurodevelopmental disorders. Polyaminopathies disrupt the biosynthesis of the primary polyamines: putrescine, spermidine, and spermine. Snyder–Robinson syndrome results from hemizygous loss‐of‐function variants in the spermine synthase (SMS) gene, resulting in decreased or ...

Spermine and L-name pretreatment effects on polyamine and nitric oxide metabolism in rat brain during seizures [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Biochemistry, 2007
In the CNS polyamines can exert opposite effects, depending on the concentration and conditions in the cell. Protective or neurotoxic polyamine effects were documented during seizures and repeated CNS excitation.

Effects of spermine on immune organ indexes and expression levels of genes related to immune factors in geese

open access: yes浙江大学学报. 农业与生命科学版, 2019
To investigate the effects of spermine on goose immune organ indexes and expression levels of genes related to immune factors, the Sichuan adult white geese (female) were intragastrically administered with 5 and 10 mg spermine per kilogram body mass, and

Zweikanal‐Fluoreszenz‐Assays mit supramolekularen Wirt/Farbstoff‐Reporterpaaren zur Kartierung der Membranaktivität von Peptiden

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.

Nephrotoxic Action of Spermine

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1952
ConclusionsSpermine administered parenterally is highly active in producing renal injury in mice, rats, and rabbits. This property was not observed for spermidine, putrescine, or cadaverine.

Dual‐Channel Fluorescence Assays with Supramolecular Host‐Dye Reporter Pairs for Membrane Activity Mapping of Peptides

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Membrane‐active peptides (MAPs) such as cell‐penetrating peptides (CPPs) and antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) can translocate across lipid membranes and create membrane pores. The combination of a dye efflux and a supramolecular tandem membrane assay in a dual‐channel format enables an advanced mechanistic characterization and an exploration of the ...

Difluoromethylornithine rebalances aberrant polyamine ratios in Snyder–Robinson syndrome

open access: yesEMBO Molecular Medicine, 2023
Snyder–Robinson syndrome (SRS) results from mutations in spermine synthase (SMS), which converts the polyamine spermidine into spermine. Affecting primarily males, common manifestations of SRS include intellectual disability, osteoporosis, hypotonia, and

Spermidine Reproduces the Anti‐Inflammatory Effects of Intermittent Fasting and Prevents Urate and Calcium Pyrophosphate Crystal‐Induced Inflammation

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Gout caused by the formation of monosodium urate (MSU) crystals and calcium pyrophosphate (CPP) deposition disease are two major types of microcrystalline pathologies in adults. They are responsible for recurrent flares that rely on interleukin (IL) 1β via activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome.
