Platelets affect myocardial damage from ischemia/reperfusion. Redox-dependent sphingosine-1-phosphate production and release are altered in diabetic platelets. Sphingosine-1-phosphate is a double-edged sword for ischemia/reperfusion injury. Therefore, we

Given that the bioactive lipid sphingosine 1-phosphate is involved in cardiovascular pathophysiology, and since lipid accumulation and inflammation are hallmarks of calcific aortic stenosis, the role of sphingosine 1-phosphate on the pro-inflammatory/pro-

Sphingosine 1-Phosphate and Atherosclerosis
Sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) is a potent lipid mediator that works on five kinds of S1P receptors located on the cell membrane. In the circulation, S1P is distributed to HDL, followed by albumin. Since S1P and HDL share several bioactivities, S1P is believed to be responsible for the pleiotropic effects of HDL.

Sphingosine 1-Phosphate Receptor 4 Expression in Colorectal Cancer Patients
The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of S1PR4 in colorectal cancer and its correlation with clinicopathologic characteristics. Paraffin-embedded colorectal cancer samples and matched adjacent normal tissues were collected from 32 ...

Bile acids as global regulators of hepatic nutrient metabolism
Bile acids (BA) are synthesized from cholesterol in the liver. They are essential for promotion of the absorption of lipids, cholesterol, and lipid-soluble vitamins from the intestines.

Sphingolipids as Emerging Mediators in Retina Degeneration
The sphingolipids ceramide (Cer), sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P), sphingosine (Sph), and ceramide-1-phosphate (C1P) are key signaling molecules that regulate major cellular functions.

Sphingosine-1 phosphate prevents ethanol-induced corneal epithelial apoptosis
Background: Apoptosis is a programmed cell death in multicellular organisms, found in a wide variety of conditions, including inflammatory process, everywhere in the body, including the cornea and conjunctiva. Aim: To evaluate the effect of a new topical
