Dimethylsphingosine Regulates Intracellular pH and Ca2+ Human Monocytes

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2006
.: Dimethylsphingosine (DMS) was first reported as an inhibitor of protein kinase C and later has been used as a specific inhibitor of sphingosine kinase.

Comparative Effectiveness Analysis of Phase 3 Clinical Trials in Moderately to Severely Active Inflammatory Bowel Disease Reveals Increased Harm From Placebo and Challenges Equipoise

open access: yesJCC Plus, Volume 1, Issue 5, September 2026.
Across 47 Phase 3 trials in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, placebo exposure was associated with measurable harm. Disease exacerbation events showed the greatest excess risk, with one additional exacerbation occurring for every 8–13 patients assigned to placebo rather than active therapy.

Targeting progressive multiple sclerosis: Toward mechanism‐informed precision medicine

open access: yesJournal of Internal Medicine, Volume 300, Issue 3, Page 238-257, September 2026.
Abstract Multiple sclerosis has undergone a therapeutic revolution over the past three decades. Randomized clinical trials and real‐world data demonstrate that modern disease‐modifying therapies substantially reduce relapse rates and acute inflammatory activity detected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

MEOX1 Coordinates Autocrine‐Paracrine Programs via SPHK1/S1P to Promote Lymph Node Metastasis in Ovarian Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 43, 3 August 2026.
In ovarian cancer, MEOX1 activates the SPHK1/S1P pathway to promote both tumor progression and tumor–stroma crosstalk. MEOX1‐dependent signaling drives CAF activation, enhances VEGF‐C expression, and stimulates lymphangiogenesis, ultimately facilitating lymph node metastasis.

Sphingosine-1-phosphate promotes erythrocyte glycolysis and oxygen release for adaptation to high-altitude hypoxia

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
The presence of the signalling lipid Sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) in erythrocytes has unclear physiological implications. Here the authors show that the S1P-generating enzyme Sphingosine kinase type 1 and its product S1P play an important role in the ...

Lung Pericytes: Molecular Mechanisms, Signaling Pathways, and Roles in Pulmonary Diseases

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 4, August 2026.
Central role of pericytes across major pulmonary diseases. Conceptual wheel diagram illustrating the central role of lung pericytes across diverse pulmonary disease states. A pericyte positioned at the center expresses canonical markers, including PDGFRβ, CD146, and NG2, and connects radially to five major disease contexts.

Sphingosine‐1‐Phosphate Receptor 1 Regulates Competition Dependent Astrocyte Morphogenesis and Tiling in Murine Cortex

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 8, August 2026.
Neuronal contact‐induced expression of S1PR1 in astrocytes is regulated by JAK‐STAT3 signaling. Astrocytic S1PR1 modulates cortical astrocyte morphogenesis. Astrocytic S1PR1 regulates astrocyte territorial overlap/tiling in a competition dependent manner.

Sphingosine‐1‐Phosphate Receptor 1 Promotes Ovarian Cancer Tumorsphere Proliferation and Metastasis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 159, Issue 3, Page 768-781, 1 August 2026.
In high‐grade serous ovarian cancer, malignant ascites frequently arise as ovarian cancer cells shed from the primary tumor and aggregate into tumorspheres, severely limiting treatment success. To date, little is known about the mechanisms governing tumorsphere endurance and metastasis within the ascites once formed.

Myocardial Lipid Metabolism Imbalance: The Pathological Core and Novel Diagnostic‐Therapeutic Directions of Cardiovascular Diseases

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Volume 40, Issue 8, August 2026.
In cardiac cells, Plin5/AMPK regulate lipid homeostasis; excess CD36‐mediated uptake drives lipotoxicity, mitochondrial dysfunction, and CVDs (e.g., heart failure). Biomarkers (ApoB/ApoA‐1) and therapies (SGLT2 inhibitors) target this cascade. ABSTRACT Cardiac lipid metabolism is fundamental to myocardial energy homeostasis, with fatty acid oxidation ...
