Stem Cells From the Apical Papilla (SCAP) as a Tool for Endogenous Tissue Regeneration [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2018
Stem cells extracted from developing tissues possibly exhibit not only unique but also superior traits against their developed counterparts. Indeed, stem cells from the apical papilla (SCAP); a unique group of dental stem cells related to developing roots have been shown to be a promising tool for regenerative endodontic procedures and regeneration in ...

A perspective from the Mesozoic: Evolutionary changes of the mammalian skull and their influence on feeding efficiency and high‐frequency hearing

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The complex evolutionary history behind modern mammalian chewing performance and hearing function is a result of several changes in the entire skeletomuscular system of the skull and lower jaw. Lately, exciting multifunctional 3D analytical methods and kinematic simulations of feeding functions in both modern and fossil mammals and their ...

A pilot study on biological characteristics of human CD24(+) stem cells from the apical papilla

open access: yesJournal of Dental Sciences, 2022
Background/purpose: CD24 is a specific cell surface marker for undifferentiated dental stem cells from apical papilla (SCAPs) seen only during root development, before the tooth emerges through gum.

Dental development in the tropical gar (Atractosteus tropicus) and the evolution of vertebrate dentitions

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Dentitions have diversified enormously during vertebrate evolution, involving reductions, modifications, or allocations to prey seizing and processing regions. A combination of ancient and novel features related to dental and oropharyngeal apparatuses is found in extant lineages of non‐teleost fishes, such as the gars.

Macroscopic, Histological and Ultrastructural Features of the Tongue of the Anatolian Wild Boar (Sus scrofa libycus)

open access: yesMicroscopy Research and Technique, EarlyView.
Integrated macroscopic, histological, and ultrastructural analyses revealed five distinct lingual papillae types (filiform, fungiform, conical, foliate, and vallate) in the Anatolian wild boar (Sus scrofa libycus). Mechanical papillae showed marked structural specialization, while gustatory papillae exhibited region‐specific distribution of taste buds.
