hiPSC‐Derived Astrocytes From Individuals With Schizophrenia Induce a Dystrophic Phenotype in Microglial‐Like Cells

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 1, January 2026.
SCZ astrocytes display an increased pro‐inflammatory profile upon TNF‐α stimulation. Reactive SCZ astrocytes induce microglial‐like cells to assume a dystrophic phenotype. Reactive SCZ astrocytes limit iMGs' synaptoneurosome uptake and migration. ABSTRACT Neuroinflammation, particularly astrocyte reactivity, is increasingly linked to schizophrenia (SCZ)

CSF synaptic protein concentrations are raised in those with atypical Alzheimer’s disease but not frontotemporal dementia

open access: yesAlzheimer’s Research & Therapy, 2019
Background Increased CSF levels of a number of synaptic markers have been reported in Alzheimer’s disease (AD), but little is known about their concentrations in frontotemporal dementia (FTD). We investigated this in three synaptic proteins, neurogranin,

Distinct insulin granule subpopulations implicated in the secretory pathology of diabetes types 1 and 2

open access: yeseLife, 2020
Insulin secretion from β-cells is reduced at the onset of type-1 and during type-2 diabetes. Although inflammation and metabolic dysfunction of β-cells elicit secretory defects associated with type-1 or type-2 diabetes, accompanying changes to insulin ...

NEURONIC SYSTEM INSIDE NEURONS: MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND BIOPHYSICS OF NEURONAL MICROTUBULES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Neurons are highly specialized cells that input, process, store and output information. Interneuronal communication is achieved in four basic ways: (i) Ca2+ evoked exocytosis with chemical neurotransmission, (ii) gap junction electrotonic coupling, (iii)

Dysregulation of the endosomal sorting complex III is linked to neurodegeneration in progressive multiple sclerosis

open access: yesBrain Pathology, Volume 36, Issue 1, January 2026.
This study shows that components of the ESCRT‐III membrane repair machinery, VPS4B and CHMP2A, are dysregulated in progressive MS and are associated with higher neurodegeneration and inflammation. This might lead to improper function of the complex to inhibit the final stages of necroptosis activation and thus impede neuronal cell death.

Triple Function of Synaptotagmin 7 Ensures Efficiency of High-Frequency Transmission at Central GABAergic Synapses

open access: yesCell Reports, 2017
Synaptotagmin 7 (Syt7) is thought to be a Ca2+ sensor that mediates asynchronous transmitter release and facilitation at synapses. However, Syt7 is strongly expressed in fast-spiking, parvalbumin-expressing GABAergic interneurons, and the output synapses

Structural and Biochemical Characterization of Botulinum Neurotoxin Subtype B2 Binding to Its Receptors

open access: yesToxins, 2020
Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs) can be used therapeutically to treat a wide range of neuromuscular and neurological conditions. A collection of natural BoNT variants exists which can be classified into serologically distinct serotypes (BoNT/B), and further

The translational repressors Nanos and Pumilio have divergent effects on presynaptic terminal growth and postsynaptic glutamate receptor subunit composition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Pumilio (Pum) is a translational repressor that binds selectively to target mRNAs and recruits Nanos (Nos) as a corepressor. In the larval neuromuscular system, Pum represses expression of the translation factor eIF-4E and the glutamate receptor subunit ...

Undercovering the molecular mechanisms of lipid signalling at ER-PM contact sites in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) under abiotic stress conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Abiotic stresses cause large reductions in crop production. Therefore, is important to understand how plants respond in order to develop varieties with increased resistance.

A Mathematical model for Astrocytes mediated LTP at Single Hippocampal Synapses

open access: yes, 2012
Many contemporary studies have shown that astrocytes play a significant role in modulating both short and long form of synaptic plasticity. There are very few experimental models which elucidate the role of astrocyte over Long-term Potentiation (LTP ...
