A role for voltage-dependent anion channel Vdac1 in polyglutamine-mediated neuronal cell death. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2007
Expansion of trinucleotide repeats in coding and non-coding regions of genes is associated with sixteen neurodegenerative disorders. However, the molecular effects that lead to neurodegeneration have remained elusive.

Chronic, Environmentally Relevant PM2.5 Exposure Exacerbates Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease and Early‐Stage Renal Dysfunction in a Rodent Model

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT While epidemiological studies link fine particulate matter (PM2.5) exposure to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and renal dysfunction, a translational gap exists, as most animal models utilize acute, high‐dose exposures that poorly reflect chronic, moderate‐level human scenarios.

SNPS in the HIV-1 tata box and the aids pandemic

open access: yes, 2021
Evolutionary trends have been examined in 146 HIV-1 forms (2662 copies, 2311 isolates) polymorphic for the TATA box using the "DNA sequence→affinity for TBP" regression (TBP is the TATA binding protein). As a result, a statistically significant excess of

Arsonic Acid Functional Polymers Enable Stabilization of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles in Aqueous Solution

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Arsonic acid containing diblock copolymers are developed to incorporate arsonic acid moieties for surface anchoring to IONPs, along with water soluble PEG blocks to impart colloidal stability in aqueous environments. The resulting polymer‐coated IONPs are evaluated for stability in physiological media and cytocompatibility.

c-Fos-Induced Activation of a TATA-Box-Containing Promoter Involves Direct Contact with TATA-Box-Binding Protein [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Biology, 1994
Transcriptional activation in eukaryotes involves protein-protein interactions between regulatory transcription factors and components of the basal transcription machinery. Here we show that c-Fos, but not a related protein, Fra-1, can bind the TATA-box-binding protein (TBP) both in vitro and in vivo and that c-Fos can also interact with the ...

Partial recovery of large seed arrival following ecological restoration in fragmented tropical rainforests

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Forest restoration success depends crucially on the reinitiation of ecological processes such as seed arrival that drive natural regeneration. We know little about whether, by increasing and diversifying local seed sources to alleviate seed limitation, and attracting animal frugivores to alleviate dispersal limitation, restoration could shift seed ...

DNA Topoisomerases Are Required for Preinitiation Complex Assembly during GAL Gene Activation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
To investigate the importance of topoisomerases for transcription of the galactose induced genes, we have studied the expression of GAL1, GAL2, GAL7 and GAL10 in Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells deficient for topoisomerases I and II.
