A developmental profile of tocol accumulation in oat seeds
Journal of Cereal Science, 2013Oats are a good source of many vitamins and minerals, including compounds that collectively constitute vitamin E, the tocols. Tocols are comprised of two subgroups, tocopherols and tocotrienols. Due to their potent antioxidant properties, attention has been given to the health benefits of tocols in oats.

Tocols as Antioxidant Molecules in the Agro-Food Field
2023The presence of many different antioxidant molecules in foodstuffs and their by-products has attracted the scientific community's attention to their applications in finished foods due to their high bioactive power. Classes of molecules, such as phenolic compounds (phenolic acids, flavonoids, stilbenoids, and lignans), carotenoids, and tocols, provide ...

Comparison of antioxidant activities of tocol and its methyl derivatives
Lipids, 1968AbstractIn tests with purified menhaden oil at 37C and with squalene at 37C and 50C, unsubstituted tocol, 7,8‐dimethyl tocol (γ‐tocol), and 8‐methyl tocol (σ‐tocol) were superior antioxidants to 5,7‐dimethyl tocol and 5,7,8‐trimethyl tocol (α‐tocol).

‘Tocol‐omic’ Diversity in Wild Barley, Short Communication
Chemistry & Biodiversity, 2011AbstractHordeum spontaneum, wild barley, is the direct progenitor of domestic barley, Hordeum vulgare, an economically important ingredient of animal feed, beer, soy sauce, and more recently, of nutraceuticals. Domestic barley has also been used in the past as a medicine.

Carotenoids, Tocols, and Retinols during the Pasta-Making Process
2015This chapter reports the ‘state of the art’ of the influence of the pasta-making process on tocols, carotenoids, and retinols. Available literature reveals that processing may influence the levels of these compounds in the final products, depending on several physical and chemical factors, such as light, temperature, pH, O2, food composition, presence ...

Separations of tocopherols and methylated tocols on cyclodextrin-bonded silica
Journal of Chromatography A, 1994Abstract α-, β-, γ-, and δ-tocopherols (methyl-substituted tocols) and 5,7-dimethyltocol were separated by normal-phase HPLC on β- or γ-cyclodextrin-bonded silica (CDS) with fluorescence detection. The HPLC behavior of the tocol components was studied under various mobile phase conditions.
