Total antioxidant capacities of raw and cooked meats
Meat Science, 2012This study investigated the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) of meats (beef, chicken, pork and fish) and its changes on thermal treatment. The QUENCHER procedure, which is performed directly on the solid material without extraction, was selected and proved to be particularly suitable for meat samples. The ABTS(+) scavenging capacity of raw meats ranged

Renal regulation of plasma total antioxidant capacity
Medical Hypotheses, 2001Hyperuricemia has been labeled both a risk factor and marker for cardiovascular pathology in addition to being associated with gout and kidney disease. Uric acid in vitro acts as a potent antioxidant capable of scavenging hydroxy radicals and peroxynitrite and reacting with nitric oxide.

Rapid measurement of total antioxidant capacity in plants
Nature Protocols, 2007There is growing interest in measuring the antioxidant status of plant tissues. This protocol describes the oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) assay, which measures antioxidant inhibition of peroxyl radical-induced oxidations and is a measure of total antioxidant capacity.

Reduction of Total Antioxidant Capacity after Femoral Fracture
Acta chirurgiae orthopaedicae et traumatologiae Cechoslovaca, 2015The aim of this study was to determine the changes in total antioxidant capacity (TAC) during the fracture healing process.Twenty patients with isolated closed femoral fracture, between the ages 18 and 60 years, were included in the study. The control group was formed with healthy volunteers. Venous blood was drawn from the healthy volunteers once, and

Total Antioxidant Capacity in Children with Acute Appendicitis
European Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2006This study aimed to investigate antioxidant capacity by using a novel automated method in children with acute appendicitis.Blood samples were obtained from consecutive patients with acute appendicitis (appendicitis group, n = 12) and acute abdominal pain due to non surgical disease (non-appendicitis group, n = 11), and from patients with inguinal ...

Total antioxidant capacity evaluation: Critical steps for assaying berry antioxidant features
BioFactors, 2005A diet rich in fruits and vegetables provides a wide amount of active molecules which offer protection against the most widespread chronic worldwide conditions (cardiovascular events, cancer, age-related degenerative diseases). In recent years, epidemiological studies have demonstrated an inverse association between the intake of antioxidants from ...

Total antioxidant capacity of fish seminal plasma
Aquaculture, 2013Abstract Total antioxidant capacity (TAC) was measured in the seminal plasma of 13 fish species using a commercial assay kit. TAC values are quite variable among the 13 species studied, from 0.008 mM of Trolox for rainbow trout to 1.909 mM of Trolox for Eurasian perch. Two species of percid fish were distinguished by high values of TAC.

Depletion of total antioxidant capacity in type 2 diabetes
Metabolism, 1999The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between antioxidant depletion, glycemic control, and development of chronic complications in a controlled population of type 2 diabetic patients. Fifty age-matched type 2 diabetic patients receiving sulfonylureas but not insulin treatment were screened and assigned to two groups based on the ...
