Transcytosis of Macromolecules at the Blood–Brain Barrier
2014The restrictive nature of the blood-brain barrier means that cellular machinery must be in place to deliver macromolecules to the brain. This is achieved by transcytosis which is more complex than initially supposed, both in terms of structure and regulation.

Optimizing transferrin-mediated transcytosis
Science-Business eXchange, 2013Caltech researchers have shown how modulating the transferrin content on gold nanoparticles can optimize their delivery into the brain via the transferrin receptor. The group now needs to determine whether its strategy will translate to drug-nanoparticle conjugates amenable for use in the CNS.

[Transcytosis of immunoglobulin IgG].
Kaibogaku zasshi. Journal of anatomy, 1999Recent studies on cellular mechanism of transmission of maternal IgG are briefly reviewed. The mechanism has been studied in rodent intestine and yolk sac, where the role of neonate Fc receptors (FcRn) in the transcellular transport of IgG is now well understood. FcRn binds IgG on the cell surface (intestine) or in endosomes (yolk sac) at around pH 6.0.

Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Transcytosis and Secretion
2017Protective levels of Alpha-1 antitrypsin (A1AT) are achieved in the lung through the uptake of the pulmonary vasculature of hepatocyte-secreted A1AT. The anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and anti-protease properties of A1AT are critical toward maintaining the function of pulmonary endothelial and epithelial cells and for the structural integrity of ...
