Turning Unpredictable Biomolecule Adsorption to Controlled Corona Formation: Focus on Carbon Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the protein corona formation onto carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) enhances their functionalities as platforms for cancer theranostics. Here, we reviewed the effects of the intrinsic and acquired properties of CNMs on protein corona formation, the consequent biological and toxicological outcomes, and the strategies to reshape corona formation ...

Caveolae-Mediated Transcytosis and Its Role in Neurological Disorders

open access: yesBiomolecules
The blood–brain barrier (BBB) controls the flow of substances to maintain a homeostatic environment in the brain, which is highly regulated and crucial for the normal function of the central nervous system (CNS). Brain endothelial cells (bECs), which are

The Recycling and Transcytotic Pathways for IgG Transport by FcRn are Distinct and Display an Inherent Polarity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The Fc receptor FcRn traffics immunoglobulin G (IgG) in both directions across polarized epithelial cells that line mucosal surfaces, contributing to host defense.

Insight into Cellular Uptake and Transcytosis of Peptide Nanoparticles in Spodoptera frugiperda Cells and Isolated Midgut

open access: yesACS Omega, 2022
Silencing genes in insects by introducing double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) in the diet holds promise as a new pest management method. It has been demonstrated that nanoparticles (NPs) can potentiate dsRNA silencing effects by promoting cellular ...

CRP Deficiency Rescues Periodontitis‐Induced Hippocampal Neurogenesis Impairment by Suppressing OPC‐Derived BMP4 Signaling in Rats

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chronic periodontitis elevates circulating CRP, which enters the hippocampus to upregulate BMP4 in oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs), thereby impairing neurogenesis and inducing anxiety/depression‐like behaviors in rats. Counteracting this pathway, CRP deficiency helps confer functional resilience to OPCs.

Glycocalyx is critical for blood‐brain barrier integrity by suppressing caveolin1‐dependent endothelial transcytosis following ischemic stroke

open access: yesBrain Pathology, 2021
The breakdown of the blood‐brain barrier (BBB) is related to the occurrence and deterioration of neurological dysfunction in ischemic stroke, which leads to the extravasation of blood‐borne substances, resulting in vasogenic edema and increased mortality.

A Mitochondria‐Specific Nanomedicine for Synergistic Chemo‐Photothermal Therapy and Immunogenic Activation Against Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Peptide dendrimer–based nanoplatform with mitochondria‐targeting capability was developed for synergistic chemo‐photothermal therapy. The system promotes efficient transcytosis, induces mitochondrial dysfunction, triggers immunogenic cell death (ICD), and enhance antitumor immunity by promoting dendritic cell maturation and T‐cell activation, resulting

Vectorial targeting of an endogenous apical membrane sialoglycoprotein and uvomorulin in MDCK cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
We studied the cell-surface delivery pathways of newly synthesized membrane glycoproteins in MDCK cells and for this purpose we characterized an endogenous apical integral membrane glycoprotein.

Albumin nanoparticles for glutathione-responsive release of cisplatin: new opportunities for medulloblastoma treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Redox-responsive nanoparticles were synthesized by desolvation of bovine serum albumin followed by disulfide-bond crosslinking with N, Nʹ-Bis (acryloyl) cystamine. Dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy studies revealed spherical
