Novel hybrid TiO2 particles were developed and assessed as an adsorbent for solid phase extraction (SPE) of organophosphorus pesticides (fensulfothion, parathion methyl, coumaphos, and diazinon) from spiked water. The sol‐gel method was used to synthesize TiO2 particles, which were coated with free‐radical polystyrene (PS) and poly(3‐chloro‐2 ...

Production and efficacy of a low-cost recombinant pneumococcal protein polysaccharide conjugate vaccine. [PDF]
Streptococcus pneumoniae is the leading cause of bacterial pneumonia. Although this is a vaccine preventable disease, S. pneumoniae still causes over 1 million deaths per year, mainly in children under the age of five.

There are many ways to obtain metal nanoparticles: biological, physical, and chemical ways and combinations of these approaches. Synthesis assisted with plant extracts has been widely documented. However, one issue that is under discussion refers to the metabolites responsible for reduction and stabilization that confine nanoparticle growth and prevent

Facile Solventless Synthesis of a Nylon‐6,6/Silver Nanoparticles Composite and Its XPS Study
Silver nanoparticles were synthesized and supported on thin nylon membranes by means of a simple method of impregnation and chemical reduction of Ag ions at ambient conditions. Particles of less than 10 nm were obtained using this methodology, in which the nylon fibers behave as constrained nanoreactors.

Objective. Sublingual microcirculatory alterations are associated with an adverse prognosis in several critical illness subgroups. Up to now, single‐center studies have reported on sublingual microcirculatory alterations in ICU patient subgroups, but an extensive evaluation of the prevalence of these alterations is lacking.

Single domain antibody: Development and application in biotechnology and biopharma
Summary Heavy‐chain antibodies (HCAbs) are a unique type of antibodies devoid of light chains, and comprised of two heavy chains‐only that recognize their cognate antigen by virtue of a single variable domain also referred to as VHH, single domain antibody (sdAb), or nanobody (Nb).

Organized B cell sites in cartilaginous fishes reveal the evolutionary foundation of germinal centers [PDF]
The absence of germinal centers (GCs) in cartilaginous fishes lies at odds with data showing that nurse sharks can produce robust antigen-specific responses and affinity mature their B cell repertoires.
