Involvement of voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) in dengue infection. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2016
AbstractDuring infection, dengue virus (DENV) proteins interact with host cellular constituents promoting the remodeling of the cell to facilitate virus production. While a number of interacting proteins have been identified for DENV non-structural proteins, far fewer interacting partners have been identified for the DENV structural proteins.

Modulation of mitochondrial voltage dependent anion channel: studies on bilayer electrophysiology [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
The present paper is a review of the mitochondrial Voltage Dependent Anion Channel (VDAC), popularly known as mitochondrial porin, which is a protein that forms a passive diffusion ion channel across the outer membrane of the mitochondrion.

Ten Years of High Resolution Structural Research on the Voltage Dependent Anion Channel (VDAC)—Recent Developments and Future Directions [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2018
Mitochondria are evolutionarily related to Gram-negative bacteria and both comprise two membrane systems with strongly differing protein composition. The major protein in the outer membrane of mitochondria is the voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC ...

Aspirin induces cell death by directly modulating mitochondrial voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC). [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2017
AbstractAspirin induces apoptotic cell death in various cancer cell lines. Here we showed that silencing of VDAC1 protected HeLa cells from aspirin-induced cell death. Compared to the wild type cells, VDAC1 knocked down cells showed lesser change of mitochondrial membrane potential (Δψm), upon aspirin treatment.

Current state of theoretical and experimental studies of the voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC). [PDF]

open access: yesBiochim Biophys Acta, 2016
Voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC), the major channel of the mitochondrial outer membrane provides a controlled pathway for respiratory metabolites in and out of the mitochondria. In spite of the wealth of experimental data from structural, biochemical, and biophysical investigations, the exact mechanisms governing selective ion and metabolite ...

Genome-Wide Characterization of VDAC Gene Family in Soybean (Glycine max L.) and In Silico Expression Profiling in Response to Drought and Salt Stress [PDF]

open access: yesPlants
Soybean (Glycine max L.) is grown worldwide to obtain edible oil, livestock feed, and biodiesel. However, drought and salt stress are becoming serious challenges to global soybean cultivation as they retard the growth of soybean plants and cause ...

Structural basis of apoptosis induction by the mitochondrial voltage-dependent anion channel [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications
The voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) is the main gateway for metabolites across the mitochondrial outer membrane. VDAC oligomers are connected to apoptosis induced by various stimuli.

Concentration dependent ion selectivity in VDAC: a molecular dynamics simulation study. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
The voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) forms the major pore in the outer mitochondrial membrane. Its high conducting open state features a moderate anion selectivity.

Alpha-Synuclein and Mitochondrial Dysfunction in Parkinson’s Disease: The Emerging Role of VDAC

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2021
Alpha-Synuclein (αSyn) is a protein whose function is still debated, as well as its role in modulation of mitochondrial function in both physiological and pathological conditions.

A C-Terminally Truncated Variant of Neurospora crassa VDAC Assembles Into a Partially Functional Form in the Mitochondrial Outer Membrane and Forms Multimers in vitro

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2021
The voltage-dependent anion-selective channel (VDAC) is a porin in the mitochondrial outer membrane (MOM). Unlike bacterial porins, several mitochondrial β-barrels comprise an odd number of β-strands, as is the case for the 19-β-stranded VDAC. Previously,
