Conformational Dynamics of AcrA Govern Multidrug Efflux Pump Assembly

open access: yesACS Infectious Diseases, 2019
Multidrug efflux pumps of pathogenic, Gram-negative bacteria comprise an innate resistance mechanism and are key contributors to the emerging global pandemic of antibiotic resistance. Several increasingly detailed cryo-electron microscopy maps have been resolved of an entire efflux pump complex, AcrAB-TolC, resulting in atomistic structural models ...

Study of Plasmid-Mediated Quinolone Resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae: Relation to Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamases

open access: yesJournal of Pure and Applied Microbiology, 2022
Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae) is an important pathogen associated with various infections. The emergence of antibiotic resistances, such as quinolone resistance and those due to extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL), reduces the available ...

Plasmid-instability in acrA Mutants of Escherichia coli K12 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1974
SUMMARY: The effect of a mutation at acrA, which alters the bacterial membrane, on plasmid stability was studied. F-gal + residing in the mutant was remarkably unstable in the presence of acridine dyes or at high temperature (42°C) as compared with wild-type (acrA +) strains.

Acriflavine-binding Capacity Controlled by the acrA Gene of Escherichia coli [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology, 1985
The acrA mutation in Escherichia coli led to a substantial increase of the acriflavine-binding capacity of the cell, whereas the related mutations acrB (gyrB) and arcC did not. Metal ions such as Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+ and Al3+ effectively released the bound acriflavine, in proportion to their ionic strengths.

NUTRIENT ACCUMULATION IN THE ABOVEGROUND BIOMASS, IN THE LITTER LAYER AND PHYLLODIES DECOMPOSITION OF Acacia mangium Willd.

open access: yesCiência Florestal, 2010
Nutrient concentrations and contents in the shoot (leaves, branches, bark and wood) in a five-years-old stand of Acacia mangium Willd. (mangium), decomposition rate of mangium phyllodies (modified leaves) and nutrient efficiency use were evaluated in a ...

AcrAB-TolC Efflux Pump Mediated Resistance to Carbapenems among Clinical Isolates of Enterobacteriaceae

open access: yesJournal of Pure and Applied Microbiology, 2022
AcrAB-TolC is a resistance nodulation division type of efflux pump present in Enterobacteriaceae. It non-specifically effluxes antibiotics out of the bacterial cell, thus conferring drug resistance.

Earliest fossil nematode (Mermithidae) in cretaceous Lebanese amber [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994

Production and efficacy of a low-cost recombinant pneumococcal protein polysaccharide conjugate vaccine. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Streptococcus pneumoniae is the leading cause of bacterial pneumonia. Although this is a vaccine preventable disease, S. pneumoniae still causes over 1 million deaths per year, mainly in children under the age of five.

Controlled Delivery and Light‐Induced Release of Magic Spot Nucleotides in Escherichia coli

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
We synthesized photocaged, clickable and isotope‐labeled “magic spot” Nucleotides and delivered them into Escherichia coli comparing different approaches. Light‐controlled release inside living cells enabled tracking of their conversion from pppGpp to ppGpp by capillary electrophoresis mass spectrometry and revealed their impact on the growth rate of a
