Advancing management of respiratory disease through thoracic ultrasound of bovine youngstock
Background: Bovine respiratory disease is the second most common cause of mortality in calves, resulting in significant reductions in growth rates as well as long‐term issues such as delays to age at first calving. It is also a leading cause of antimicrobial use in calves and a large time factor for farmers dealing with sick calves.

Ocular herpesviruses, most notably human alphaherpesvirus 1 (HSV-1), canid alphaherpesvirus 1 (CHV-1) and felid alphaherpesvirus 1 (FHV-1), infect and cause severe disease that may lead to blindness.

Essential oils with anti‐HSV‐1 activity were identified through literature review and tested against Candida to develop a formulation for co‐infections. The blend was assessed for anti‐inflammatory properties, allergenic potential via standardized BAT, and overall antiviral efficacy.

Evidence of alphaherpesvirus infections in Alaskan caribou and reindeer [PDF]
The reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus) industry in Alaska began with animals imported from Siberia (Russia) in the 1890's. Cervid herpes virus 2 (CvHV2) is endemic in reindeer in Scandinavia. We sought to determine if the same virus, or similar herpesviruses, were circulating in Alaskan reindeer and caribou (Rangifer tarandus granti).

Herpesviruses are significant pathogens of ruminants. In water buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis), however, herpesviruses have not been thoroughly studied. Although bubaline alphaherpesvirus 1 (BuAHV1) and bovine alphaherpesvirus 1 (BoAHV1) have already been recovered from water buffaloes, to date, no reports on the occurrence of bovine alphaherpesvirus 5 ...

Alphaherpesviruses and the Cytoskeleton in Neuronal Infections
Following infection of exposed peripheral tissues, neurotropic alphaherpesviruses invade nerve endings and deposit their DNA genomes into the nuclei of neurons resident in ganglia of the peripheral nervous system.

Differentially-Charged Liposomes Interact with Alphaherpesviruses and Interfere with Virus Entry
Exposure of phosphatidylserine (PS) in the outer leaflet of the plasma membrane is induced by infection with several members of the Alphaherpesvirinae subfamily. There is evidence that PS is used by the equine herpesvirus type 1 (EHV-1) during entry, but
