RNA‐Binding Proteins and Ferroptosis in Cancer: Mechanism and Therapeutic Implications

open access: yesMedComm – Oncology, Volume 5, Issue 1, March 2026.
Ferroptosis critically influences cancer cell fate and represents a promising therapeutic strategy. Emerging evidence identifies RNA‐binding proteins (RBPs) as key post‐transcriptional regulators of ferroptosis. The figure summarizes ferroptosis‐related RBPs across cancers: blue RBPs act as tumor suppressors by promoting ferroptosis, whereas red RBPs ...

A ruthenium-oligonucleotide bioconjugated photosensitizing aptamer for cancer cell specific photodynamic therapy

open access: yes, 2021
Ruthenium complexes have emerged as a promising class of compounds for use as photosensitizers (PSs) in photodynamic therapy (PDT) due to their attractive photophysical properties and relative ease of chemical alteration.

Light‐Activated Multifunctional Nanoplatforms: Reshaping Combination Therapy to Overcome Multidrug Resistance in Breast Cancer

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2026.
Multidrug resistance in breast cancer constitutes a major therapeutic obstacle. This review examines light‐activated nanoplatforms combining photothermal and photodynamic therapies to overcome this challenge. Through rational design, these systems enable spatiotemporal control, enhanced tumor targeting, and synergistic antitumor efficacy.

A New Paradigm for Aptamer Therapeutic AS1411 Action: Uptake by Macropinocytosis and Its Stimulation by a Nucleolin-Dependent Mechanism

open access: yes, 2010
AS1411 is a first-in-class anticancer agent, currently in phase II clinical trials. It is a quadruplex-forming oligodeoxynucleotide that binds to nucleolin as an aptamer, but its mechanism of action is not completely understood.

PDIA3 Inhibition Facilitates Sensitivity of IKE‐Induced Ferroptosis via STAT3/LCN2 Axis to Improve Glioblastoma Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 12, 27 February 2026.
In this manuscript, protein disulfide isomerase A3 (PDIA3) is identified as a key factor mediating the susceptibility of ferroptosis in GBM. Inhibition of PDIA3 enhances IKE or cystine starvation‐induced ferroptosis in GBM cells by resulting in the accumulation of lipid peroxidation and a reduction in GSH level.

Evaluation of somatostatin and nucleolin receptors for therapeutic delivery in non-small cell lung cancer stem cells applying the somatostatin-analog DOTATATE and the nucleolin-targeting aptamer AS1411.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Cancer stem cells represent the putative tumor-driving subpopulation thought to account for drug resistance, relapse, and metastatic spread of epithelial and other cancer types.

Development of cell internalizing aptamer-aptamer conjugate

open access: yes, 2020
