Na+,K+-ATPase and Cardiotonic Steroids in Models of Dopaminergic System Pathologies

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2023
In recent years, enough evidence has accumulated to assert that cardiotonic steroids, Na+,K+-ATPase ligands, play an integral role in the physiological and pathophysiological processes in the body.

Ouabain exerts protective effects on SH-SY5Y cells upon Zika virus infection [PDF]

open access: yesVirology Journal
Zika virus (ZIKV) remains a significant global health threat due to its association with severe neurological disorders, yet no specific treatments are available. Ouabain (OUA) has demonstrated antiviral and immunomodulatory properties, but its mechanisms

Beta-amyloid influences the content and trafficking of beta-amyloid precursor protein via Na,K-ATPase-Src kinase positive feedback loop [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
Beta-amyloid (Aβ) is an important factor in the development of pathology in Alzheimer’s disease. Level of beta-amyloid precursor protein (APP) is increased in neurites with age and in Alzheimer’s disease model mice.

Discovery of Ro 41-0960, a Non-Steroidal Inhibitor of the Na+/K+-ATPase. [PDF]

open access: yesChemMedChem
Ro 41‐0960 is a non‐steroidal Na+/K+‐ATPase inhibitor with low micromolar potency and a mixed inhibitory mechanism distinct from classical cardiotonic steroids, without acute pro‐arrhythmic effects in human cardiomyocytes. The Na+/K+‐ATPase (NKA) is a central regulator of cardiac ion homeostasis and a validated target for heart failure.

A real-time PCR method to genotype mutant mouse models with altered affinity for cardiotonic steroids on the Na,K-ATPase

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
The highly conserved, cardiotonic steroid binding site (also termed ouabain binding site) on the primary α subunit of Na,K-ATPase plays a receptor signaling role in a range of vital cell processes and is a therapeutic target for human disease.

The cardiotonic steroid digitoxin regulates alternative splicing through depletion of the splicing factors SRSF3 and TRA2B. [PDF]

open access: yesRNA, 2012
Modulation of alternative pre-mRNA splicing is a potential approach to therapeutic targeting for a variety of human diseases. We investigated the mechanism by which digitoxin, a member of the cardiotonic steroid class of drugs, regulates alternative ...
