Palmitic Acid Promotes Antiviral Innate Immunity via ZDHHC20‐Mediated CMPK2 Palmitoylation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Metabolites have important functions in innate immune activation and regulation. Wang et al. uncover metabolic regulation of antiviral immunity through CMPK2 palmitoylation, which regulates CMPK2 mitochondrial localization and is promoted by ZDHHC20 but reversed by PPT1, inhibition of which antagonizes viral infection in mice.

25R,26-Hydroxycholesterol revisited: synthesis, metabolism, and biologic roles

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2002
The CYP27 gene is expressed in arterial endothelium, macrophages, and other tissues. The gene product generates sterol intermediates that function as ligands for nuclear receptors prior to their transport to the liver for metabolism, mostly to bile acids.

Ferritinophagy Rewires Carnitine‐Dependent Lipid Metabolism to Inhibit PRRSV and IAV Replication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
NCOA4‐mediated ferritinophagy reprograms carnitine metabolism by disrupting Fe‐S cluster biogenesis, thereby establishing an iron‐lipid axis that suppresses various viruses, including PRRSV and IAV. However, viruses counteract this mechanism by degrading NCOA4.

Studies on cholesterol 7α-Hydroxylase [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
Attempts were made to solubilize the enzyme cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase from native rat liver microsomes and from rat liver microsomal acetone and butanol powders.

Phenotypic characterization of Lith genes that determine susceptibility to cholesterol cholelithiasis in inbred mice: integrated activities of hepatic lipid regulatory enzymes1

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1999
There is no consensus whether hepatic lipid regulatory enzymes play primary or secondary roles in cholesterol cholelithiasis. We have used inbred mice with Lith genes that determine cholesterol gallstone susceptibility to evaluate the question.

Cholesterol‐Mediated Metabolic‐mechanotransductive Crosstalk Orchestrates Castration Resistance in Prostate Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Full androgen deprivation (FAD) induces paracrine cholesterol in prostate cancer that drives the polarization of cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and subsequent elevated matrix stiffness. Matrix stiffness in turn potentiates tumor cell survival under FAD pressure via dual mechanotransductive activation of the IRE1α‐XBP1s stress‐response axis ...

Insulin suppresses bile acid synthesis in cultured rat hepatocytes by down-regulation of cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase and sterol 27-hydroxylase gene transcription

open access: yes, 1995
Evidence from in vivo studies indicates that the bile acid pool and bile acid excretion are increased in humans with diabetes mellitus and in experimental diabetic animals, and that both parameters return to normal levels after administration of insulin.

The role of 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 in bile acid homeostasis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Bile acids (BAs) are important modulators of metabolic functions such as lipid, triglyceride and glucose homeostasis. Intrahepatic accumulation of BAs is known to cause liver injury in cholestatic conditions, where normal trans-hepatic BA flow is ...

Adzuki resistant starch lowered serum cholesterol and hepatic 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA mRNA levels and increased hepatic LDL-receptor and cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase mRNA levels in the rats fed a cholesterol diet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
application/pdfWe examined the effects of aduki bean resistant starch on serum cholesterol and hepatic mRNA in rats fed a cholesterol diet. The mRNA coded for key regulatory proteins of cholesterol metabolism.

Ethnic differences in the prevalence of polymorphisms in CYP7A1, CYP7B1 AND CYP27A1 enzymes involved in cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences, 2011
It is well known that drug disposition and response are greatly determined by the activities of drug metabolizing enzymes, which are polymorphic.
