The transcriptional profile of iron deficiency in patients with heart failure: Heme‐sparing and reduced immune processes

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
The analysis workflow, findings and potential clinical consequences of iron deficiency in heart failure (HF). From 881 patients with worsening HF, whole blood transcriptome was analysed using the Affymetrix Human Transcriptome Array (HTA) 2.0. Subjects were stratified according to their transferrin saturation (TSAT) levels as iron‐deficient (TSAT <20%)

Comparison of iron chelation effects of deferoxamine, deferasirox, and combination of deferoxamine and deferiprone on liver and cardiac T2* MRI in thalassemia maior

open access: yesCaspian Journal of Internal Medicine, 2017
Background: Cardiac complications due to iron overload are the most common cause of death in patients with thalassemia major. The aim of this study was to compare iron chelation effects of deferoxamine, deferasirox, and combination of deferoxamine and ...

The Availability of Iron Is Involved in the Murine Experimental Toxoplasma gondii Infection Outcome

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2020
Iron is an important constituent of our environment, being necessary for both mammalian and pathogenic protozoa survival. Iron-containing proteins exert a wide range of biological processes such as biodegradation and biosynthesis, as well as immune ...

Pharmacological effects of gastrodin: Insight into neurological diseases and mechanism in ferroptosis and pyroptosis

open access: yesIbrain, Volume 11, Issue 1, Page 74-83, Spring 2025.
Pharmacological effects of gastrodin include prevention and treatment of cognitive decline and reperfusion injuries, anticonvulsion, antiepilepsy, antidepressants, and analgesia, which are related to antiferroptosis and antipyroptosis. Abstract Gastrodin, as an effective monomer of gastrodia elata, plays a significant role in anti‐inflammatory ...

A Novel Star Like Eight-Arm Polyethylene Glycol-Deferoxamine Conjugate for Iron Overload Therapy

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2020
The traditional iron chelator deferoxamine (DFO) has been widely used in the treatment of iron overload disease. However, DFO has congenital disadvantages, including a very short circular time and non-negligible toxicity.

Bavachalcone targets transferrin receptor and sensitizes gemcitabine to affect bladder cancer progression

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
Transferrin (Tf) binds extracellular Fe3+ and interacts with transferrin receptor (TFRC) on the cell membrane, leading to endocytosis. Iron is reduced by STEAP3, transported by DMT1 into the cytoplasm, then enters mitochondria to support Fe–S cluster formation, mitochondrial respiration, and ATP production.

Corticosterone and Mitochondrial Efficiency Are Associated With Changes in DNA Oxidative Damage During an Acute Stress Response in Leach's Storm‐Petrels (Hydrobates leucorhous)

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The ability of organisms to effectively respond to challenges is critical for survival. We investigated how an acute stressor affected corticosterone, mitochondrial function, and DNA oxidative damage in a wild population of Leach's storm‐petrels (Hydrobates leucorhous).

Toward optimizing the use of deferasirox: potential benefits of combined use with deferoxamine

open access: yesHaematologica, 2013
Patients with β-thalassemia require iron chelation therapy to protect against progressive iron overload and non-transferrin-bound iron. Some patients fail to respond adequately to deferoxamine and deferasirox monotherapy while others have side effects ...
