Preparation and purification of Flavobacterium heparinum chondroitinases AC and B by hydrophobic interaction chromatography

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 1999
Flavobacterium heparinum is a soil bacterium that produces several mucopolysaccharidases such as heparinase, heparitinases I and II, and chondroitinases AC, B, C and ABC. The purpose of the present study was to optimize the preparation of F.

Multistage tandem mass spectrometry of chondroitin sulfate and dermatan sulfate [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mass Spectrometry, 2011
Chondroitin/dermatan sulfate (CS/DS) is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG) found in abundance in extracellular matrices. In connective tissue, CS/DS proteoglycans play structural roles in maintaining viscoelasticity through the large number of immobilized sulfate groups on CS/DS chains. CS/DS chains also bind protein families including growth factors and growth

A Novel Sprayable Fibrinogen/Glycosaminoglycans/Collagen‐Based Bioink for Skin Wound Healing Applied by a Handheld Dual‐Head Airbrush

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐head airbrush‐based spraying device, combined with a fibrinogen bioink enriched with glycosaminoglycans and collagen, enables the delivery of biomaterials and cells to promote wound healing. This system demonstrates effective skin regeneration in vitro and in vivo, with comparable results to autografts.

Isolation, N-glycosylations and Function of a Hyaluronidase-Like Enzyme from the Venom of the Spider Cupiennius salei. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Hyaluronidases are important venom components acting as spreading factor of toxic compounds. In several studies this spreading effect was tested on vertebrate tissue. However, data about the spreading activity on invertebrates, the main prey organisms of

Glycosaminoglycan distribution in the rat uterine cervix during the estrous cycle

open access: yesClinics, 2010
OBJECTIVE: To analyze the amount of glycosaminoglycans in the uterine cervix during each phase of the rat estrous cycle. DESIGN: Based on vaginal smears, forty female, regularly cycling rats were divided into four groups (n = 10 for each group): GI ...

Hologenomics Reveals Specialized Dietary Adaptations in the Mengla Snail‐Eating Snake

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dietary adaptation studies from a holobiome perspective are scarce beyond mammals. This research reveals how genomic and microbial interactions drive dietary specialization in the Mengla snail‐eating snake, with evidence of gut symbiont convergence between reptiles and mammals.

Characterization of Danaparoid Complex Extractive Drug by an Orthogonal Analytical Approach

open access: yesMolecules, 2017
Danaparoid sodium salt, is the active component of ORGARAN, an anticoagulant and antithrombotic drug constituted of three glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) obtained from porcine intestinal mucosa extracts. Heparan sulfate is the major component, dermatan sulfate

Bioactive polysaccharides and their potential health benefits in reducing the risks of metabolic syndrome: A review

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, EarlyView.
Abstract Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a complex noncommunicable condition characterized by central obesity, insulin resistance, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and hyperglycemia. Epidemiological evidence shows that MetS affects a third of the global population; however, due to its complex pathogenesis and limited drug therapy options, the increasing ...
