Biosynthesis of Fatty Acid Derivatives by Recombinant Yarrowia lipolytica Containing MsexD2 and MsexD3 Desaturase Genes from Manduca sexta

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2023
One of the most interesting groups of fatty acid derivates is the group of conjugated fatty acids from which the most researched include: conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and conjugated linolenic acid (CLNA), which are associated with countless health ...

Acyl-Lipid Δ6-Desaturase May Act as a First FAD in Cyanobacteria

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2022
Fatty acid desaturases (FADs) play important roles in various metabolic and adaptive pathways in all living organisms. They represent a superfamily of oxygenases that introduce double bonds into the acyl chains of fatty acids (FAs).

Different Cis-Regulatory Elements Control the Tissue-Specific Contribution of Plastid ω-3 Desaturases to Wounding and Hormone Responses

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
Trienoic fatty acids are essential constituents of biomembranes and precursors of jasmonates involved in plant defense responses. Two ω-3 desaturases, AtFAD7 and AtFAD8, synthetize trienoic fatty acids in the plastid.

Associations of fatty acids composition and estimated desaturase activities in erythrocyte phospholipids with biochemical and clinical indicators of cardiometabolic risk in non-diabetic Serbian women: the role of level of adiposity

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2023
IntroductionFatty acids (FAs) composition and desaturase activities can be altered in different metabolic conditions, but the adiposity-independent associations with clinical and biochemical indicators of cardiometabolic risk are still unclear.

Expression and Regulation of Δ5-Desaturase, Δ6-Desaturase, Stearoyl-Coenzyme A (CoA) Desaturase 1, and Stearoyl-CoA Desaturase 2 in Rat Testis [PDF]

open access: yesBiology of Reproduction, 2003
In mammalian cells, essential polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are converted to longer PUFAs by alternating steps of elongation and desaturation. In contrast to other PUFA-rich tissues, the testis is continuously drained of these fatty acids as spermatozoa are transported to the epididymis.

The Bacillus subtilis Acyl Lipid Desaturase Is a Δ5 Desaturase [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 2003
ABSTRACT Bacillus subtilis was recently reported to synthesize unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs) with a double bond at positions Δ5, Δ7, and Δ9 (M. H. Weber, W. Klein, L. Muller, U. M. Niess, and M. A. Marahiel, Mol. Microbiol. 39:1321-1329, 2001).

A desaturase‐like protein from white spruce is a Δ9 desaturase [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 2002
Gymnospermae seed lipids are characterized by a high degree of desaturation, most having a Δ9 double bond. By degenerate polymerase chain reaction (PCR) we have isolated a white spruce (Picea glauca) cDNA clone that encodes an amino acid sequence sharing a high degree of homology with other putative plant acyl‐coenzyme A (CoA) Des9 desaturases.

Key Enzymes in Fatty Acid Synthesis Pathway for Bioactive Lipids Biosynthesis

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2022
Dietary bioactive lipids, one of the three primary nutrients, is not only essential for growth and provides nutrients and energy for life's activities but can also help to guard against disease, such as Alzheimer's and cardiovascular diseases, which ...

Sequential Dynamics of Stearoyl-CoA Desaturase-1(SCD1)/Ligand Binding and Unbinding Mechanism: A Computational Study

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2021
Stearoyl-CoA desaturase-1 (SCD1 or delta-9 desaturase, D9D) is a key metabolic protein that modulates cellular inflammation and stress, but overactivity of SCD1 is associated with diseases, including cancer and metabolic syndrome.
