Acyl–Acyl Carrier Protein Desaturases and Plant Biotic Interactions

open access: yesCells, 2021
Interactions between land plants and other organisms such as pathogens, pollinators, or symbionts usually involve a variety of specialized effectors participating in complex cross-talks between organisms.

A metabolomic strategy defines the regulation of lipid content and global metabolism by Δ9 desaturases in Caenorhabditis elegans [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2012
Background Caenorhabditis elegans provides a genetically tractable model organism to investigate the network of genes involved in fat metabolism and how regulation is perturbed to produce the complex phenotype of obesity. C.

Diversification of substrate specificities in teleostei Fads2: characterization of Δ4 and Δ6Δ5 desaturases of Chirostoma estor[S] [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2014
Currently existing data show that the capability for long-chain PUFA (LC-PUFA) biosynthesis in teleost fish is more diverse than in other vertebrates.

Genetic variation in lipid desaturases and its impact on the development of human disease [PDF]

open access: yesLipids in Health and Disease, 2010
Perturbations in lipid metabolism characterize many of the chronic diseases currently plaguing our society, such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

Simultaneous overexpression of ∆6-, ∆12- and ∆9-desaturases enhanced the production of γ-linolenic acid in Mucor circinelloides WJ11

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Mucor circinelloides WJ11, an oleaginous filamentous fungus, produces 36% lipid of its cell dry weight when cultured in a high C/N ratio medium, however, the yield of γ-linolenic acid (GLA) is insufficient to make it competitive with other plant sources.

Lipidomic analysis of cancer cells cultivated at acidic pH reveals phospholipid fatty acids remodelling associated with transcriptional reprogramming

open access: yesJournal of Enzyme Inhibition and Medicinal Chemistry, 2020
Cancer cells need to modulate the biosynthesis of membrane lipids and fatty acids to adapt themselves to an accelerated rate of cell division and survive into an extracellular environment characterised by a low pH.

Relationship between NAFLD and coronary artery disease: A Mendelian randomization study

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Background and Aims There is an ongoing debate on whether NAFLD is an active contributor or an innocent bystander in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease (CAD). The aim of the present study was to assess the causal relationship between NAFLD and CAD.

Lipocalin‐2 activates hepatic stellate cells and promotes nonalcoholic steatohepatitis in high‐fat diet–fed Ob/Ob mice

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Graphical summary of obesity‐induced NASH progression by LCN2 targeted to HSC activation. Abstract Background and Aims In obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus, leptin promotes insulin resistance and contributes to the progression of NASH via activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs).

Essential lipid autacoids rewire mitochondrial energy efficiency in metabolic dysfunction‐associated fatty liver disease

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Increased liver content of DHA‐derived small lipid autacoids (i.e resolvin D1 and maresin 1) associates with enhanced mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid β‐oxidation and bioenergetic metabolic flux. These features provide hepatic protection from steatotic, pro‐inflammatory and fibrogenic insults.
