Expression of SCD and FADS2 Is Lower in the Necrotic Core and Growing Tumor Area than in the Peritumoral Area of Glioblastoma Multiforme

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2020
The expression of desaturases is higher in many types of cancer, and despite their recognized role in oncogenesis, there has been no research on the expression of desaturases in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM).

Bioinformatic approach for the identification of plant species that accumulate palmitoleic acid

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Biotechnology, 2022
Background: Palmitoleic acid is a fatty acid that possesses nutritional, health, and industrial applications. However, it accumulates in the seed oil of few plant species that often lack agronomic value.

Pathways of Lipid Metabolism in Marine Algae, Co-Expression Network, Bottlenecks and Candidate Genes for Enhanced Production of EPA and DHA in Species of Chromista

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2013
The importance of n-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFAs) for human health has received more focus the last decades, and the global consumption of n-3 LC-PUFA has increased.

Identification and functional analysis of delta-9 desaturase, a key enzyme in PUFA Synthesis, isolated from the oleaginous diatom Fistulifera. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Oleaginous microalgae are one of the promising resource of nonedible biodiesel fuel (BDF) feed stock alternatives. Now a challenge task is the decrease of the long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) content affecting on the BDF oxidative stability

The role of cytochrome b 5 fusion desaturases in the synthesis of polyunsaturated fatty acids

open access: yes, 2003
The biosynthetic pathway of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) has been the subject of much interest over the last few years. Significant progress has been made in the identification of the enzymes required for PUFA synthesis; in particular, the fatty ...

AdipoR1 and AdipoR2 maintain membrane fluidity in most human cell types and independently of adiponectin

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2019
The FA composition of phospholipids must be tightly regulated to maintain optimal cell membrane properties and compensate for a highly variable supply of dietary FAs.

Metabolic Reprogramming in Glioblastoma Stem Cells Promotes Radiation Resistance Through a H3K18la/USP30/MBOAT2 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
LDHA‐driven lactate production in mesenchymal glioma stem cells promotes p300‐dependent H3K18 lactylation, activates USP30 transcription, and stabilizes MBOAT2 to remodel phosphatidylethanolamines toward ferroptosis‐resistant PE‐MUFA species. Disrupting this metabolic–epigenetic–lipid circuit enhances ferroptosis and sensitizes glioblastoma to ...

Polyunsaturated fatty acid elongation and desaturation in activated human T-cells: ELOVL5 is the key elongase

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2018
PUFAs are important constituents of membrane glycerophospholipids. However, changes in the capacities to incorporate and metabolize PUFAs when cells enter the cell cycle have not been thoroughly studied.

Lyssavirus Nucleoprotein Induces GPAT4‐Mediated CYB5R1 Depalmitoylation to Suppress Ferroptosis and Promote Viral Replication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lipid metabolism plays a vital role in viral infections. Here, we reveal that the lyssavirus N protein regulates GPAT4 to induce lipid droplet biogenesis, restricting CYB5R1 palmitoylation and reducing ferroptosis susceptibility to ultimately promote viral replication.
