Lrat+ quiescent hepatic stellate cells (qHSC) give rise to Lrat+Fbln2+ activated HSC (aHSC) in alcohol‐associated hepatitis and this subpopulation is highly profibrotic, inflammatory, and immunoregulatory based on their single cell transcriptomic profile. Abstract Background and Aims Relative roles of HSCs and portal fibroblasts in alcoholic hepatitis (

Fatty acid desaturases play a key role in producing polyunsaturated fatty acids by converting single bonds to double bonds. In the present study, a total of 13, 12, 8 and 8 candidate fatty acid desaturases genes were identified in the Aspergillus oryzae,

The long-standing paradigm establishing that global production of Omega-3 (n–3) long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA) derived almost exclusively from marine single-cell organisms, was recently challenged by the discovery that multiple ...

The desaturase gene family : an evolutionary study of putative speciation genes in 12 species of Drosophila [PDF]
The formation and persistence of species are the subject of much debate among biologists. Many species of Drosophila are behaviourally isolated, meaning that heterospecific individuals are not attracted to one another and do not interbreed.

Delta-8 desaturation activity varies among fatty acyl desaturases of teleost fish: high activity in delta-6 desaturases of marine species [PDF]
The benefits of dietary fish and fish oil are derived from n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA) that have beneficial effects in a range of human diseases and pathologies such as cardiovascular and other inflammatory disorders, neural ...

Desaturases : structural and mechanistic insights into the biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids [PDF]
This review highlights the key role of fatty acid desaturases in the synthesis of naturally occurring, more common and not, unsaturated fatty acids. The three major classes of fatty acid desaturases, such as acyl-lipid, acyl-acyl carrier protein and acyl-

Structure and Biosynthesis of Mangotoxin Produced by the Plant Pathogen Pseudomonas syringae
The structure of mangotoxin remained elusive for over two decades. Here, mangotoxin was isolated from the native producer, Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae, and was determined to be an alkyne‐containing dipeptide. Mangotoxin inhibited the growth of multidrug‐resistant human pathogen Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Genetic regulation of unsaturated fatty acid composition in C. elegans.
Delta-9 desaturases, also known as stearoyl-CoA desaturases, are lipogenic enzymes responsible for the generation of vital components of membranes and energy storage molecules.
