Ellagitannin Chemistry. The First Total Chemical Synthesis of an Ellagitannin Natural Product, Tellimagrandin I

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 1994
Tellimagrandin I was synthesized by two different biogenetically patterned routes. One route featured diastereoselective galloyl ester coupling between the O(4) and O(6) galloyl moieties in a glucose-derived substrate bearing additional protected galloyl groups on 0(2) and 0(3).

Multitargeted therapy of cancer by ellagitannins

Cancer Letters, 2008
Ellagitannins are bioactive polyphenols that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory bioactivities. Pomegranate juice has the highest concentration of ellagitannins of any commonly consumed juice and contains the unique ellagitannin, punicalagin. Punicalagin is the largest molecular weight polyphenol known. Ellagitannins are not absorbed intact into the

Diastereomeric Ellagitannin Isomers from Penthorum chinense

Journal of Natural Products, 2015
From the dried stem of Penthorum chinense (Penthoraceae), 1-O-galloyl-4,6-(R)-hexahydroxydiphenoyl (HHDP)-β-D-glucose and 2',4',6'-trihydroxyacetophenone 4'-O-[4,6-(R)-HHDP]-β-D-glucoside were isolated together with their (S)-HHDP isomers. Ellagitannins with a 4,6-(S)-HHDP-glucose moiety are widely distributed in the plant kingdom; however, 4,6-(R ...

Research progress of ellagitannin intestinal metabolite urolithins

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica, 2016
Ellagitannins is a kind of phenolic compounds with many biological activities. Recent studies have found that the effective ingredients of these compounds have close relationship with their colon-derived bacteria metabolites, that is urolithins.

Toward Understanding Monomeric Ellagitannin Biosynthesis

1999
Ellagitannins are found in approximately 40 percent of all dicotyledenous plants ranging from raspberries to the oaks.1–3 By definition, this class of compounds is composed of only glucose and biaryl-linked gallic acid. Though these two compounds are relatively simple in structure, the complexity of the compounds that can be formed is tremendous ...

Detection and determination of ellagitannins

Phytochemistry, 1972
Abstract Ellagic acid combined in the form of esters of hexahydroxydiphenic acid (HHDP) can be quantitatively determined by taking advantage of the formation of a coloured product with nitrous acid. Under specified conditions, monoesters with glucose have molecular absorption coefficients between 2150 and 2300 at 600 nm.
