Ficolin-1 and Ficolin-3 Plasma Levels Are Altered in HIV and HIV/HCV Coinfected Patients From Southern Brazil

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
The complement system is a key component of the innate immune system, participating in the surveillance against infectious agents. Once activated by one of the three different pathways, complement mediates cell lysis, opsonization, signalizes pathogens ...

Genetic variants of innate immune receptors and infections after liver transplantation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Infection is the leading cause of complication after liver transplantation, causing morbidity and mortality in the first months after surgery. Allograft rejection is mediated through adaptive immunological responses, and thus immunosuppressive therapy is

Genetic Polymorphism of Ficolin-2 in Arctic Populations

open access: yesDoctor.Ru
Aim. To study the prevalence of polymorphisms rs17549193 and rs7851696 of the ficolin-2 gene FCN2 among the Nenets, Dolgan-Nganasan and Slavic populations using a molecular genetic study of single nucleotide polymorphisms. Design. Comparative population-genetic research. Materials and methods.

Synergy between Ficolin-2 and Pentraxin 3 Boosts Innate Immune Recognition and Complement Deposition [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2009
The long pentraxin 3 (PTX3) is a multifunctional soluble pattern recognition molecule that is crucial in innate immune protection against opportunistic fungal pathogens such as Aspergillus fumigatus. The mechanisms that mediate downstream effects of PTX3 are largely unknown. However, PTX3 interacts with C1q from the classical pathway of the complement.

Yersinia enterocolitica O:3 Outer Membrane Vesicles as a Platform for Complement Activation

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2026.
Basic characteristics and biological activity of outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) secreted by Yersinia enterocolitica O:3 (YeO3), depending on LPS chemotype and growth temperature. ABSTRACT Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is the major component of the outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) of Gram‐negative bacteria.

Proteomic Profiling of Human Extracellular Vesicles Reveals Diagnostic Biomarkers for Colon Adenocarcinoma

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2026.
Proteomic profiling of tissue explant‐ and plasma‐derived extracellular vesicles identified colon adenocarcinoma‐associated and healthy‐associated EV proteins. A 10‐protein EV panel enabled highly sensitive blood‐based detection of colon adenocarcinoma, showed marked postoperative changes, and retained performance in an independent validation cohort ...

Effects of sequence variations in innate immune response genes on infectious outcome in trauma patients: A comprehensive review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Infectious complications, sepsis, and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) remain important causes for morbidity and mortality in patients who survive the initial trauma.

Therapeutic Potential of Lentiviral miR‐200a Mimics in Regulating Fibrinolysis and EMT Markers During Pulmonary Fibrosis

open access: yesFASEB BioAdvances, Volume 8, Issue 4, April 2026.
The graphical abstract contrasts normal and fibrotic lungs, illustrating how miR‐200a mimics suppress PAI‐1 and EMT markers, restore fibrinolysis, and reduce MMP‐driven ECM deposition. This schematic highlights the therapeutic potential of miR‐200a in mitigating pulmonary fibrosis progression.

A New Ligand-Based Method for Purifying Active Human Plasma-Derived Ficolin-3 Complexes Supports the Phenomenon of Crosstalk between Pattern-Recognition Molecules and Immunoglobulins.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Despite recombinant protein technology development, proteins isolated from natural sources remain important for structure and activity determination. Ficolins represent a class of proteins that are difficult to isolate.

Proteomic analysis of silica hybrid sol-gel coatings: a potential tool for predicting the biocompatibility of implants in vivo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The interactions of implanted biomaterials with the host organism determine the success or failure of an implantation. Normally, their biocompatibility is assessed using in vitro tests.
