Entorhinal Astrocyte Transplants Restore Spatial Exploration and Alleviate Amyloid‐Beta Pathology in Alzheimer's Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Impaired MEC astrocytic Ca2+ signaling is associated with fragmented spatial exploration in AD mice. Region‐specific glial progenitor transplantation generates engrafted astrocytes that are accompanied by improved AQP4 polarization, reduced amyloid‐β‐associated pathology, attenuated neuroinflammation, preserved synaptic integrity, and ameliorated ...

Achyranthes bidentata polypeptides prevent apoptosis by inhibiting the glutamate current in cultured hippocampal neurons

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research, 2020
Glutamate-induced excitotoxicity plays a critical role in the neurological impairment caused by middle cerebral artery occlusion. Achyranthes bidentata polypeptides have been shown to protect against neurological functional damage caused by middle ...

Transient Sleep Deprivation Induces Persistent Auditory Neuropathy via ROS‐Initiated Neuroinflammation and BK Channel Suppression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Sleep disturbance severity closely tracks hearing loss in a clinical cohort, yet the mechanistic link remains unclear. Acute sleep deprivation is shown to trigger transient cochlear oxidative stress that switches into a self‐sustaining neuroinflammatory state, suppressing BK channels and causing irreversible synaptopathy.

Increased expression and function of glutamate transporters in multiple sclerosis

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2006
Recent studies have shown that glutamate excitotoxicity may be a component in the etiology of multiple sclerosis (MS). Glutamate transporters determine the levels of extracellular glutamate and are essential to prevent excitotoxicity.

Palmitoyl Acyltransferase Zdhhc17 Promotes Functional Recovery After Spinal Cord Injury by Targeting the Nuclear Transport Factors Kpna2 and Ipo9

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, we demonstrate that Zdhhc17, acting as a PAT, suppresses neuronal apoptosis and promotes axon regeneration after injury, thereby enhancing functional recovery following SCI. In this context, Kpna2 and Ipo9 serve as novel palmitoylation substrates of Zdhhc17, whose palmitoylation prevents the injury‐induced degradation of their proteins ...

Functional investigation of SLC1A2 variants associated with epilepsy

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2022
Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder and glutamate excitotoxicity plays a key role in epileptic pathogenesis. Astrocytic glutamate transporter GLT-1 is responsible for preventing excitotoxicity via clearing extracellular accumulated glutamate ...

Precision Nanomedicine for Traumatic Neural Injury: Functional Paradigms and Translational Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review presents a pathology‐driven framework unifying nanomedicine across TBI, SCI, and PNI. Epidemiological evidence and comparative single‐cell transcriptomic reanalysis define shared pathological modules, injury‐specific effectors, and therapeutic bottlenecks. Six functional paradigms connect nanomaterial structure and biological fate to injury‐

T Cell‐Mediated Targeting of Interneurons in Mice Shapes Hippocampal Remodeling and Epilepsy

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) is associated with autoantibodies targeting distinct neuronal populations. In AE, antibodies against glutamate decarboxylase 65 (GAD65), expressed in GABAergic interneurons, are frequently detected. In GAD65‐AE, hippocampal biopsies often show infiltrates of CD8+ cytotoxic T cells (CTLs), suggesting a prominent T ...

Astrocyte SMN Restoration and Forskolin Treatment Improve SMA Synaptic Pathology

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Early phenotypic presentation of central afferent synapse dysfunction within patients with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) represents a key target for therapeutic development; however, the underlying disease mechanisms remain unresolved. By further investigating motor neuron synapse and peri‐synaptic astrocyte process (PAP) defects in human SMA

Protective effect of naringenin on glutamate-induced neurotoxicity in cultured hippocampal cells [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Biological Sciences, 2015
Monosodium glutamate induces excitotoxicity in the central nervous system through hyperactivation of both ionotropic and metabotropic glutamate receptors, which leads to neuronal cell death.
